I am a huge fan of the original, so I was disappointed in this remake. The cast was meh, some good choices, others not so much. They took some liberties with the story and I am sorry, you just can't do that with a cult classic such as this one.

I went in with an open mind. Big fan for decades of the original. Opening song.. good - confusing how it would play out but good. Brad and Janet..Decent voices.. opening songs alright.. story held up... the cemetery wandering during the number at the church.. SMH... but I was still on board. Rif Raf at the door.. ok Then we see Magenta - Christina did a good job but it's really hard to overlook the bad casting of two people that are supposed to be siblings. Columbia.. Hands down my favorite person cast in this version. Big fat freekin kudos to Annaleigh Ashford . The woman committed to the character and all I could see was Columbia. She saved the show. Eddie.. meh.. Dr Scott - I guess Ben needed the work. This cast would have been maybe a 4 but Laverne Cox as Frankie.. big fail. The vocals were just .. nope... too much range.. the sweet transvestite dance.. way over the line.. even the wardrobe was off for me. I missed the green lab coat. Tim Curry has the charisma to get everybody worked up in that part.. Laverne did not pull that off. Tim had sex appeal in the part - Laverne was more maniacal and didn't have the tease of the original character. And what was up with Tim? Was he trying for an American accent? No glitter sparkle in his eyes.. oddness. I don't mind Laverne as Laverne.. this was just not a good fit for the character I'd have scored a 2 but was so happy that there was no hip hop or rap version of any of the music it gets a 3. I watch the original fairly frequently.. this one, probably won't get a second watch
