TV ratings: Super Bowl XLVI close to a record in early returns

The Super Bowl may not quite set a ratings record for the third straight year -- but it could come awfully close.Metered-market ratings for Super Bowl XLVI show the game scoring a 47.8 rating/71 share in Nielsen's metered-market ratings, which for live broadcasts are sometimes a better indicator of the audience than the fast national ratings, which are below. That's just a tenth of a point behind the last two Super Bowls, which are the No. 1 and No. 2 telecasts in U.S. television history.Following the game, the premiere of "The Voice" scored a 19.4/33 in the metered markets, considerably better than FOX's broadcast of "Glee" (15.3/27) last year.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/02/tv-ratings-super-bowl-xlvi-close-to-a-record-in-early-returns.html

Because of this "the Simpsons go off the grid to this very rugged place where they meet [Assange], who's sort of their new Flanders," EP Al Jean says. As for whether Assange will act like Flanders, don't count on it. Jean adds, "The similarities end there...He invites them over for a home movie and it's an Afghan wedding being bombed."Assange is quite the polarizing figure. 'The Simpsons': 500th episode set to air Feb. 19

We've known for a while that the milestone 500th episode of "The Simpsons" would come somewhere early in 2012, but FOX has now nailed down a date for the episode: Sunday, Feb. 19. Marge and Homer try to sneak back in, but they learn pretty fast that they're no longer welcome.FOX is marking the occasion by challenging fans to break the Guinness world record for continuous TV watching. It currently stands at just over 86 hours, but the network is hoping someone can make it all the way through the entire series of "The Simpsons" to date (which would be in the neighborhood of 183 hours, assuming 22 minutes per episode). Information on the contest is at TheSimpsons.com and the show's Facebook... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/01/the-simpsons-500th-episode-set-to-air-feb-19.html
