The Simon Effect? 'X Factor' Judges Harsher Than the Season 10 Idol Crew

The X-Factor is in full swing now, and by all accounts the judges have been much tougher than those on American Idol or The Voice. Reporters have been allowed into the auditorium where Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid, and Nicole Scherzinger are listening to auditions, and while the press has been instructed not to take any direct quotes, the general story is the same: Simon and co. are not the touchy-feely panel of Idol, The Remix. The New York Post caught up with Simon outside the auditorium,... http://feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/O2y5CRdJ6Ro/the-simon-effect-x-factor-judges-harsher-than-the-season-10-idol-crew

Nicole Scherzinger is a Hit at 'The X Factor' Auditions

Newly appointed judge Nicole Scherzinger made her debut at 'The X Factor' auditions in Newark, New Jersey. And, according to Simon Cowell, "she was terrific." It seems that Scherzinger has been hired to be the mean judge: Cowell introduced her to the crowd as "our own answer to Cruella de Vil," the villainous puppy-skinner from '101 Dalmatians.' Scherzinger sidestepped questions about the controversy surrounding the exit of former judge Cheryl Cole from the show, telling 'The Daily Mirror' that "I haven't spoken to Cheryl but she is a lovely, talented, sweet girl. ... I don't know how it went down." Read More... http://www.aoltv.com/2011/06/10/nicole-scherzingers-a-hit-at-the-x-factor-auditions/

'X Factor': 10 things we learned

The X Factor  returned to New Jersey on Wednesday for the first of two days of judges round auditions. EW joined an audience of roughly 5,000 for the day’s second taping at Newark’s Prudential Center, which featured 22 contestants. Fox told journalists to refrain from IDing performers and revealing their song choices, backstories, and comments to the judges, as well as quoting the judges’ critiques, so we’ll have to speak generally. Paula Abdul on Cheryl Cole's 'X Factor' departure: 'We will continue to stay in touch'

It was announced Monday (June 6) that Nicole Scherzinger will officially be replacing Cheryl Cole as a judge on "The X Factor," Simon Cowell's new competition reality show on FOX. When Cole's departure was first reported, rumors of a feud -- or lack of chemistry -- between her and fellow judge Paula Abdul began circulating. "I'm excited for everyone to see and hear what she is about to do next." And there you have it -- no feud. Cowell also recently opened up about Cole's departure, saying, "She's one of my closest friends, and this was a decision we made which we thought would be beneficial to her, funny enough. Not many people will believe that, but that's the truth.""The... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/06/paula-abdul-on-cheryl-coles-x-factor-departure-we-will-continue-to-stay-in-touch.html

Simon Cowell Apologizes to Cheryl Cole for 'X Factor' Fiasco

After weeks of speculation it was confirmed yesterday that Nicole Scherzinger is replacing Cheryl Cole on 'The X Factor' in the U.S. Now, head honcho Simon Cowell has apologized to Cole for the chaos surrounding the judging lineup on his new talent show, but insists that she wasn't fired. According to 'The Sun' newspaper, Cowell takes full responsibility for the decision to replace Cole with Scherzinger, and said he did it for her own good. He said she seemed out of her depth on the U.S. show, and so producers offered her a quiet exit with the offer of returning to her old job on 'The X Factor' U.K. "The feeling was that she was slightly out of her comfort zone in America. The intention was to do it quietly and say to her she had an option to rejoin the UK show. ... At the end of the day we were saying, 'Move to another show for even more money'. There was an offer of around £2.5 million on the table including bonuses. How is that [firing] someone?" http://www.aoltv.com/2011/06/07/simon-cowell-apologizes-to-cheryl-cole-for-x-factor-fiasco/
