USA Network and legendary journalist Tom Brokaw are setting out to capture the changing face of a nation in the documentary American Character Along Highway 50. Inspired by a series of photographs in USA Network's book American Character: A Photographic Journey, for which he penned the foreword, Brokaw will be hitting the road for an extraordinary journey along Highway 50, a route that has been called the "backbone of America." This historic road cuts a path through the middle of the United States, passing through rolling farmland and sprawling suburbs and even the occasional city, past historic Civil War battlefields and iconic Wild West towns, across the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, the Continental Divide, the Great Plains and the Great Basin, and across a stretch of Nevada where signs proclaim it "The Loneliest Road in America." There's no better place to take the pulse of the nation than along Highway 50, the road that runs through its heart.
