Fast National ratings for Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 CBS took its usual spot at the top of the total-viewer rankings on Thursday, but the wintertime debut of "Wipeout" on ABC gave that network its best 8 o'clock numbers of the season -- by a huge margin -- and helped pave the way for a demographic win. CBS and ABC were pretty much the only games in town ratings-wise Thursday night as the other broadcast nets are a couple weeks away from debuting their midseason schedules. The Eye led the night with 13.8 million viewers and an 8.3 rating/14 share among households. ABC (10.3 million, 6.1/10) was a solid second. There was a huge drop from there to third-place FOX (4 million, 2.6/4). NBC (3 million, 1.9/3) came in fourth, and The CW trailed with 1.4 million viewers and a 0.9/1. "Wipeout's" strong debut (3.7 rating among adults 18-49) helped ABC lead the night in the demographic; it averaged 3.6 for the evening. CBS was close behind at 3.4. FOX and NBC tied for third at 1.2, while The CW delivered a 0.5. To Read More Click Here.
ABC’s decision to air a winter edition of Wipeout certainly paid off on Thursday. The competition show not only posted a 19 percent increase over its June 1 premiere but helped the network to finish in the top spot among adults 18-49 (3.6 rating/10 share). Each 18-49 ratings point represents 1.3 million viewers. Wipeout earned a way-more-than-decent 3.7/11 in the demo, while its audience increased significantly from half-hour to half-hour, from 11 million at 8 to 12.1 million at 8:30. The big bouncy balls were a boon to Seattle Grace: Grey’s Anatomy earned a 4.2/11, up 5 percent versus its last original on Dec. 2. It averaged 11.6 millon. Private Practice earned a 2.8/8 and averaged 7.7 million. To Read More Click Here.
Baby, it's cold outside! The bumps-and-bruises game show Wipeout mixes some flakes with the falls when it debuts a new, season-appropriate obstacle course. "We created a winter wonderland," says exec producer Matt Kunitz, the mad genius behind the show. "It's all the fun we've had with Wipeout, but with a whole new feel and look." And, brrr, will it give contestants a chill, thanks to wintry set pieces like the Snow Blower and Mogul Madness. The latter, says Kunitz, is "basically an obstacle course in the sky," with the players sailing over a tank of water on a zip line while wearing skis. "They go through our version of moguls, which is anything that can smack them hard into the tank." To Read More Click Here.
