This review is mainly for those who have already read the books. Overall, as an adaptation, I thought it was quite good. I really enjoyed seeing some of the visuals from the book made real, and while they changed quite a few things for TV (especially since it's mainly set in England rather than China), it's still the same basic story and pretty well done. A few changes I didn't particularly like (but I can't go into them because they're incredibly spoiler-y), but they could be redeemed later if they pay off in a good way in future seasons. Just gotta see where they're going with the changes before I know if they're good or bad. I'm excited to see what else they do with the show as it goes on, assuming Netflix doesn't cancel it like always or D&D (of Game of Thrones fame, who phoned in the last season to go work on a Star War and who wanted to do an alt-history show where the Confederacy won the Civil War) don't fuck it up. I'm hopeful for this one, at least where the writing is concerned, because the full trilogy has already been written. They were able to adapt GoT pretty well when they were pulling from the source material; much less so when they had to go off on their own to finish the story. So as one of my favorite trilogies, and assuming it doesn't get canceled a season or two in and it gets to a conclusion, I'd say this is well worth a watch.

This show has incredible talent in every department, from writing to acting. I was really impressed by the quality of this work, and it definitely tugged on my heart strings.

Overall I do absolutely love this show and I think it's a must for anyone who believes in or is interested in aliens/paranormal/supernatural stuff. Only downside is that the last few seasons definitely aren't as good as the first few.
