The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of April 13, 2015

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it—with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.

Lip Sync Battle: S1E4

Lip Sync Battle

Thursday at 10:00pm on Spike

Why: Because the internet's girlfriend (Anna Kendrick) is "battling" the internet's EX-boyfriend (John Krasinski) for the title of, I don't know, Best Lip Syncer Of The Week or something? Apparently he will wear a dress! Maybe she will wear pants, just to make it... something? For real though, Facebook's TRENDING section tells me that this show has taken the country by storm, which means it gets an automatic entry into this column.

Prepare to talk about: How Anna Kendrick, an ACTUAL SINGER from, like, BROADWAY and stuff, isn't actually going to get to sing; how you're so over John Krasinski; how he shouldn't be allowed to even pretend to step into Tina Turner's amazing shoes; how excited you are for Pitch Perfect 2.

The Messengers: S1E1

The Messengers (Series Premiere)

Friday at 9:00pm on The CW

Why: Because there is a LOT going on in this apocalyptic maybe-alien invasion drama from The CW! A comet crashes to Earth and causes five strangers to die. Then those five wake up(?) and find out they're angels(?) tasked with preventing the end of the world(?). That's nuts! Why'd they have to die? I'm sure that you— like I—demand answers, and that's why you have to watch this show... at least this once.

Prepare to talk about: Which of the angels is the hottest; why we think that Earth is so special that all of these aliens want to invade it (if that's what this show is actually about, because I still can't quite tell); whether this will run longer than The CW's last similar outing, Star-Crossed.

Orphan Black: S3E1

Orphan Black (Season Premiere)

Saturday at 9:00pm on BBC America

Why: Your friends are obsessed with this show because Tatiana Maslany is putting in the award-worthy work of wearing multiple wigs in order to portray clones... and now the story is expanding to MANCLONES! What can be made of this intriguing development?!

Prepare to talk about: Your favorite clone (hint: it's Cosima); the manclones: evil or just misunderstood? Whether Cosima is OK (we hope so, because Cosima is the best); which wig is your favorite (again, it's the one used for Cosima).

It was on the list last week, but don't worry, I suspect it'll pop up again very soon.
