Indie-rock fans may recognize Split Single frontman Jason Narducy, since he’s played with some incredible names over the years: He’s currently the bassist for both Superchunk and Bob Mould, and in the past he’s played with Robert Pollard and Telekinesis, in addition to fronting Verbow in the ’90s. After a long break from writing his own songs, Narducy decided to put some together, and he corralled Spoon’s Britt Daniel and Superchunk’s Jon Wurster to record them. The result was this year’s excellent Fragmented World... and then a whole bunch of touring with his other bands. But Narducy did manage to put together a three-piece (Daniel and Wurster were presumably busy) for this Undercover session. Erik Paparozzi (who played with Cat Power for some time) and Tim Remis of Sweet Cobra join Narducy here for a rocking take on TV On The Radio’s “Wolf Like Me.” It was the first (and so far only) time we’ve employed a teleprompter for Undercover lyrics, which is understandable given the complexity of these. (Other bands use cheat sheets—they’re just normally printed on paper.) Split Single will play at Lincoln Hall in Chicago on November 21.
