Review of American Gods

Sundays, 8:00 PM ET on Starz

60 minutes

AMERICAN GODS - SEASON ONE

American Gods is terribly slow and portentous, quite aware of its own heft. With eerie music, slow-motion sequences and a fondness for deep chiaroscuro, it comes on like a particularly long and mystical car ad.

Hang in there. It all comes together quite well, and season two is going to rock.

The book drags in places as well. House on the Rock is going to be pretty cool, and if the show can stay on course, it might give us a few good seasons before they run out of material.
