Dancing with the Stars: What "Mortified" Diana Nyad in Week 1?

Long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad made headlines last year when she became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the assistance of a shark cage. But, she says, preparing to dance a minute-long foxtrot on the Season 18 premiere of Dancing with the Stars last Monday was just as daunting as gearing up for her multi-day open water feat. "When I would stand on that shore over in Cuba and look out at the horizon, I knew that what was in front of me was going to be at least two, probably more like two-and-a-half nonstop days in the open ocean, with all kinds of obstacles," Nyad, 64, tells TVGuide.com. "And [Monday], as I stood holding [partner Henry Byalikov 's] hands, I was thinking, 'You have one minute and six seconds for this foxtrot.' It's just an absurdly different kind of challenge."   Read More...   //www.tvguide.com/News/Dancing-Stars-Diana-Nyad-Week-1-Cheryl-Burke-1079591.aspx?rss=breakingnews

Dancing With the Stars Season 18 Premiere: Which Pair Is Your Early Favorite?

We have to admit we're really impressed by the Dancing With the Stars Season 18 cast. It was a struggle to pick our favorite dances from the premiere — there were so many we wanted to include! Ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White definitely wowed with their technical skills and artistry, but they were far from the only standouts. Candace Cameron Bure came out strong, setting the bar high for everyone else without dance experience. We also adored Danica McKellar and Amy Purdy, thought... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/GUn5D6wgOp4/2014-03-18-season-18-premiere-which-pair

Dancing With the Stars Season 18 Premiere Ratings: Yikes! How Bad Was It?

According to Entertainment Weekly's ratings roundup, the March 17 spring 2014 premiere tied DWTS's lowest-rated premiere ever. Season 18’s all-important (to the network and advertisers) 18-49 demographic numbers matched the show's fall 2012 premiere (All-Stars) as an all-time low, EW noted, and the digits were down 22 percent from last year's premiere. DWTS was crushed by The Voice, which was up 8 percent in the 18-49 demo. It’s disappointing, but don't sob into the Skybox just yet. Dancing With the Stars Season 18: Watch the Best and Worst Premiere Performances (VIDEO)

Dancing With the Stars Season 18 hit the ground running with last night's premiere. It's only been one night, but we're already feeling good about this cast. On a whole they're talented, dedicated, upbeat, and just plain fun. For a Week 1 show, there were surprisingly few clunkers, and a whole lot of standout moments. That said, some stars started out on a higher note than others. So who made the best first impression, and who needs to scramble to catch up? Here are Wetpaint Entertainment's... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/Z9sYuvMEFQs/2014-03-18-season-18-premiere-worst-performances

Dancing With the Stars 2014: Amy Purdy and Derek Hough’s Week 1 Cha-Cha-Cha (VIDEO)

One the Dancing With the Stars Season 18 premiere Amy Purdy and Derek Hough had the Cha-Cha-Cha. In her video package, the perky paralympian explained that she thinks doing Dancing With the Stars will be a nice change of pace. She also talked about her harrowing story about losing both of her legs when she was 19. That's impressive. The fact that she was taking part in the paralympics and training to dance with Derek at the same time is even more impressive to us! And, wow, is she good.... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/GgU_cfLAq7s/2014-03-17-amy-purdy-derek-houghs-cha-cha

Dancing With the Stars 2014: Diana Nyad and Henry Byalikov’s Week 1 Foxtrot (VIDEO)

On the Dancing With the Stars Season 18 premiere, long distance swimmer Diana Nyad and new pro Henry Byalikov danced the Foxtrot. In her video package, Diana called herself the number one fan of the show. Diana is very determined, but Henry says she's a bit of a fish out of water on the Foxtrot. She does not like heels, which is hard. Her motto is "find a way." She never, ever gives up. Her performance is elegant, but pretty stiff and slow. We like her attitude, but this is not a fantastic... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/SQ7WMgLdsXM/2014-03-17-diana-nyad-henry-byalikovs-foxtrot

Dancing With the Stars 2014: Charlie White and Sharna Burgess’s Week 1 Contemporary (VIDEO)

On the Dancing With the Stars Season 18 premiere Charlie White and Sharna Burgess danced Contemporary, and blew our minds. In their video package, Sharna called herself the "luckiest girl on the planet." They have to work on his hip action, and Charlie finds going from the ice to the floor hard. He knows there are high expectations on him. Well, the expectations are high, but he lived up to them. He is sharp, fluid, expressive, good at lifts (duh). The whole package. And we love getting to... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/iUMar1Cv8R0/2014-03-17-charlie-white-sharna-burgess-contemorary
