How I Met Your Mother 7.10: "Tick Tick Tick" Review

No offense to Kal Penn, but now is the time to start the "get Kevin off the show and out of Robin’s life" petition. I’ll be getting my jalapeno vodka mix ready to send over to CBS at any moment. The last few seconds of this week’s How I Met Your Mother simply destroyed me. Watching Barney’s face the moment he saw Kevin and then subsequently cleaning up the roses and candles he set up for Robin in her room was just devastating. (My notes are full of expletives at this point.) It was like a Band-Aid being pulled off as quick as possible and I was left a blubbering mess. That was some reversal of roles in their relationship though. Contrary to the beginning of the season when Robin was pining after Barney, it’s obvious that now he is the one longing for their rekindled relationship.  It was nerve wracking watching Nora question whether his cheating had meant anything to him. So when he said it did and all he could think of was Robin during Nora’s father’s speech, I couldn’t help but have a gleeful smile on my face. 'How I Met Your Mother': About the Barney and Robin situation...

After Barney and Robin broke up on "How I Met Your Mother" during Season 5, we knew they would eventually get back together. Right?! They're too perfect for one another to lose that spark completely.Which is why when we saw them kiss in the cab during "Disaster Averted," we screamed in joy at our TVs like 14-year-old girls at a Jonas Brothers concert. (Hypothetically, of course.) Alas, their Season 7 reunion was short-lived. Although Robin started the season with feelings for her ex, she realized that Barney had matured, that he was really into Nora, and that she should back off and let him be happy. A very mature thing to do.But when Barney and Robin hooked up, Barney's feelings for Robin resurfaced, and our newer, more mature Barney who truly cared for Nora realized that he couldn't hide what he did. Robin, on the other hand, after spending so much time trying to get... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/11/how-i-met-your-mother-about-the-barney-and-robin-situation.html

How I Met Your Mother Recap: Time After Time

Every now and then, HIMYM goes dark, veering into emotional territory that dramatically richer shows expertly navigate, but that this humble sitcom finds its way around pretty damn well. Last night’s episode featured its fair share of "That would never happen" moments, but we left it thinking, Wow, this has been a really solid season so far. Except for the rose petals and the candles — that’s far too corny for Barney, and especially for Robin, who would never be able to keep a straight face in the presence of romance rendered so tritely. Paraphrasing Einstein, Future Ted exposited: "Time moves at different speeds." Barney and Robin’s actual tryst passed in a blur, but their guilt over cheating on their partners caused the seconds to tick by. Barney began by being too blithe about his indiscretion; Robin looked rattled by comparison. Is it nitpicky to wonder why Robin isn’t doubly bothered by the fact that she slept with with her friend’s boyfriend? The closest these two ever were was Valentine’s Day 2010 and, in fact, the notion that Robin and Nora are actual friends was abandoned almost immediately. At least she piped up about their double date on the booze cruise, even if "the three-hour boat ride" tucked a little too neatly into a Gilligan joke. Suspense established: For the first time in a while, we genuinely didn’t know where all this was heading. Read More... //nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/11/met-your-mother-recap.html

'How I Met Your Mother' recap: Misgivings and Mr. Right

What are your thoughts on comedy that makes you cry? Good thing? Bad thing? Thing you'd like to avoid but will happily take part in when necessary? I fully expect your opinion to directly correspond with your opinion of last night's  How I Met Your Mother , which left your recapper (and your recapper's AIM chat buddy) in an ugly, gasping cry by the end of the episode. And for the record, I love it when I can laugh and cry in the same half hour, which is exactly what I did during an episode that found Barney and Robin dealing with the repercussions of their night together. Yup,  night together.  The show didn't bother wasting several episodes navigating the path from passionate, in-the-moment kiss to hook-up. No, they sprinted from one to the other. As I told you yesterday when I brought you a first look at the episode (you're welcome), I didn't expect that. But I was definitely okay with the fast track. After all, it made for such great drama. How I Met Your Mother Review: The Almost Story Of Us

Carter and Craig should have added the word "Boom" to the title of this week's episode " Tick Tick Tick " because it was Dy-no-mite! The good times, started from the opening scene as Robin and Barney replayed their fade to blackout and carried through to the emotional end. What made this episode so special for me though was how the great script was equally matched by the acting and how they successfully flip flopped between two story lines that were at opposite ends of the emotional spectrum.  I'm not sure how much of a stretch it was for Jason Segel and Josh Radnor to play two stoned guys at a concert, but having just gone to Madison Square Garden last week for a Furthur concert, I can honestly say they nailed it. That is of course, the only reason why, I can attest to that scene's accuracy. Read More... //www.tvfanatic.com/2011/11/how-i-met-your-mother-review-tick-tick-tick/

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER “Tick, Tick, Tick” Review

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER  "Tick, Tick, Tick" Season 7, Episode 10 – So remember last week, when I was all, "yay!" about Robin and Barney’s deliciously bad make out sesh in the back of the cab which I hoped might lead to the two of them dealing with their feelings like mature adults? Well, this week’s How I Met Your Mother  left me without that "yay!" feeling and I got a ton of frustration and sadness in its place. That kiss in the cab actually ended up with Robin and Barney making a bad situation worse by sleeping together. Their morning after conversation should have happened sometime after they paid their cab fare and before they ended up in bed together. Neither one of them seemed intoxicated at the end of last week’s  How I Met Your Mother  so I’m having a hard time coming up with any other valid excuse for how things got as far as they did without some sort of serious conversation happening between them. For Barney, it all seemed to fall into place after the fact, and it was pretty clear in his head that he wanted to be with Robin. Barney knows how to get himself out of an uncomfortable situation and he didn’t weasel out of this one. As painful as it was, I appreciated his honesty with Nora and even if he couldn’t tell her the truth on the boat, it took a huge amount of courage for him to face up to Nora while her parents were in the other room.
