Weekend Binge Guide: March 2015

Have the weekend free? Going out is overrated! Binge-watch one of these shows instead:   If you want to laugh:   Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness See all reviews for Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness What is it that makes us laugh? Some would argue its combination of timing, delivery and writing. Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness , in addition to its top-notch humorous writing, features the absolute best voice-cast of any animated series I’ve ever seen. The voice acting is so good, that some of the characters will make you laugh even when they aren’t saying anything funny—and this happens consistently. If not just for that, you should check out this truly hysterical and whimsical show that takes place in between Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 . The series follow Po, the Dragon warrior, and his team, the Furious Five as they are tasked with the protection of The Valley of Peace. Like other successful series, Legends of Awesomeness focuses as much on the villains as it does the heroes, for the primary reason that they are all—absolutely freaking hilarious.   If you want to cry:   Leverage See all reviews for Leverage Leverage is an emotionally driven, smart and humorous procedural about a team of kind-hearted criminals that work together to help people by ‘dealing’ with their issues in a creative and illegal way. It’s original, a breath of fresh air, technologically savvy, and always heart-warming. Come to think of it, Leverage is really the perfect binge-watch series as it really falls into three of the four categories. It will make you laugh, think and cry—but it won’t make you scream.       If you want to scream:   Utopia See all reviews for  Utopia Utopia will make you scream for two reasons: First, being that this no-holds-barred-show features a villainous organization so determined and unrestrained in its methodology that your monitor itself will be screaming "What are you making me display?!!" Second, I have no doubt that you will scream your head off when you reach the end of the second season only to discover… it’s been cancelled. Fear not though—The U.S. has announced that they will be making an American adaptation of Utopia slated for some time in 2015-16. Utopia is a one-of-a-kind show that can only be described as serious-butquirky, imaginative and truly intense.     If you want to think:   Gotham See all reviews for  Gotham You might very well be asking, "How can you have a show about Batman without Batman?" I was one of those people. As it turns out, the premise of Gotham is actually quite ingenious. Gotham is a one-of-a-kind (so far) live-action, week-to-week origin story of all the famous Batman villains you love to hate. You grew up watching the Batman cartoon—you’ve seen all the Batman movies and you’ve always found yourself thinking, "Well gee, how did these villains get to be so messed up? What’s their story? We know about Batman’s origins… so why don’t we know the Joker's? The Riddler’s? Penguin’s? Well—that’s just it—now we do. Gotham is a dark, gritty, intelligent show that will really make you think. You know where they end up, and you are seeing where they began, so you will undoubtedly find yourself thinking about how their pasts and futures connect.

After five seasons on TNT, "Leverage" was rather unceremoniously cancelled right before Christmas -- but that may not be the end of the caper drama. That's definitely a possibility," Devlin tells Deadline. "It's a long shot, but we have a lot of love for the show and the fans have been tremendously supportive. If we can find a way for it to continue we'll pursue."As proof of that fan support, "Leverage" just became the first cancelled show to win a People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Cable Drama."I have a giant pile of stories we still wanted to tell. Creatively the show was far from exhausted," Devlin continues. "One of the great things about this show is that it was produced independently so we can control its destiny to... //

Leverage Boss: Series Finale Is a Christmas Gift to the Fans

In the end, Leverage executive producer Dean Devlin made the right call.  Earlier this month, Devlin penned a letter to fans explaining that, because the creative team hadn't received an early Season 6 renewal from TNT, the Season 5 finale was designed to tell the story the writers always envisioned as the series finale. Last week, TNT decided to end the show, which proved Devlin & Co.'s fan-first instincts correct. "If you try to anticipate something and it doesn't happen, you may let people down who stuck with you for 77 episodes," Devlin told before the cancellation became official... //
