Even though this is "PG-13 Science Fiction", as a friend pointed out, I really like the re-imagining and all the themes they explore. Looking forward to S2.

I'm glad! A very mixed season season IMO. Only brief bits of happy nostalgia, then too much (for me) of "Reality TV"-grade deplorable conflict ("Lost" in space ... get it?). But the season ended well, and I look forward to seeing more.

Also, I absolutely *HATE* Dr. Smith. I hate Dr. Smith INTENSELY. Which means, I guess, I give serious side-eye to the writers & producers, but must admit "well done!" to [the actor].

So glad to get some good news! This was a very impressive re-imagining of the original. I'm looking forward to a new season and more to come.

Now please Netflix, pick up a few of the amazing shows that got the ax.

I enjoyed this except for the actor playing Dr. Smith. Wish the character would have been cast differently.

I agree with you all about Dr Smith. I did not enjoy her performance either. I HATED the original Dr smith in the original show.

But the new one just irritates me

My theory is that a different actor would have been told to play Dr. Smith exactly the same. The creators/producers(?) probably would have also cast someone who could make you think that perma-scowl(?) was a direct reflection of the character's petty, rotten soul .

FWIW: Sure, the original Dr. Smith was often played for comedy, and that aloofness of being "a gentleman's gentleman", but probably because if you seriously considered that original Smith's motivations and actions, especially those that got the Jupiter 2 lost in the first place, they were no less cutthroat and potentially deadly. IMHO.

^^^^ For those who were not aware, in the original, Countries used to prevent the other countries from being the first into space/move to a new planet. Dr Smith was hired to sabotage the ship, using the robot, to make Jupiter 2 off course. Through an accident, he stayed on board.

However towards the end, he grew from evil and horrid, to a comedy sketch where he bumbled his way through things. In a later episode, he managed to time travel and discovered that had he not altered the Jupiters path, the Robinson family would have crash landed into a meteor or asteroid. Therefore rather than to change his future, he allowed everything to run it's course, so that the Robinson family survived.

In season 2, Will Robinson hits puberty, and the Robot gets an upgrade to "sex bot". Boing!
