Mikagura School Suite Episode #12 Anime Review (Season Finale)

This final episode of Mikagura School Suite starts with an ending, one of them anyway. It’s an unusual choice to forgo the usual opening theme for one of the ending sequences complete with credits. This series has certainly taken an unorthodox and haphazard route with it’s opening and ending presentation. Eruna was falling through space when we last left off, and the story picks up with her mid fall. She glimpses a girl who looks like herself conversing with a girl who looks like Seisa, but is it the future or the past? Shigure and Kuzuryu managed to make a saving catch of Eruna when her fall ends above the desolate ruins of the school grounds. Wait, ruins? I half expected this reveal to mean that the other students we only see as colorless space fillers might have been fake but no, they exist too. (A lost opportunity, that would have made sense.) We had hints that the school was not what it seemed in earlier episodes and it turns out that the school was developed as a training ground for those with certain abilities. What fuels those magical abilities? Fun! Those doppelgängers were Seisa and Eruna’s ancestors, whose families (along with Shigure’s) founded the school. Seisa had the strongest inherited ability in her Killing Art, which keeps large portions of the school manifest. READ MORE...

Mikagura School Suite Episode #11 Anime Review

Mikagura starts to close up loose ends as we approach the ending of the season. There is the lingering history between of Shigure and Kuzuryu to deal with as well, and the two are matched up for the midterm battle bracket! There’s not much to say about their past, the two had a bit of a falling out after middle school and hadn’t officially fought each other in battle during high school. We discover that Kuzuryu went out of his way to avoid it, but there’s no bad blood here. They finally get there chance, and we get a chance to see the abilities of both during a short but cool battle. READ MORE...

Mikagura School Suite Episode #10 Anime Review

I think I figured out the end game of Mikagura. I bet it’s going to involve finally bringing Seisa back in to school life. It’s not much of an end game, but I can’t think of what else it could be at this point. The ending already shows Seisa hanging out with the others. However, we have to get there first! This whole show seems to be about accepting people for what they are, weirdness and all. Speaking of weirdness, we discover exactly how Bimii pulled off his transformation last episode. Well, we see how he did it and none of it is explained. Then he let’s slip that the human form is his original form, which just raises more questions, but the girls don’t care! They have a new club to celebrate! The other clubs bring some housewarming gifts for Eruna and Otone in their new digs. Eruna moves out Seisa’s hallway and in to the club room, and Eruna wonders later if Seisa isn’t happy for Eruna. READ MORE...

Mikagura School Suite Episode #09 Anime Review

You know, the opening theme of Mikagura has been growing on me, just like Eruna is growing on her group of friends. Speaking of friends, the recruitment drive is on! Eruna and Otone start by photobombing the school’s version of Unsolved Mysteries. (Does that reference still play? No?) Actually it’s just the newspaper club’s broadcast, and Eruna has found ways to manipulate the crew with rumors in order to promote her club. READ MORE...

Mikagura School Suite Episode #08 Anime Review

You know, if Eruna was a typical male lead all of her horndog behavior would be terribly offensive. As it stands her cute girl identity is the only thing keeping her from ending up on a sex offender list. She starts this episode shamelessly propositioning fellow students to join her ‘club.’ Most of the girls do the correct thing and run the opposite direction. Luckily matters soon turn to the matters of a school treasure hunt. Eruna practices her treasure hunting by putting her gaming skills to the test in Seisa’s room. (I love the pixel Eruna navigating the RPG menus.) Seisa’s maid puts a stop to it and Seisa makes Eruna a deal, if she can win the contest she’ll give Eruna a free pass to message her shoulders… and only her shoulders she clarifies. The hunt is on!
