Preacher Season 3 Episode 3 Review: Gonna Hurt

While this wasn’t my favorite episode of the season, there’s still a lot to like about "Gonna Hurt." Production design remains topnotch, from the gothic bric-a-brac cluttering Angelville’s darkest corners to the atmospheric, moody music that ably conjures a deep, mysterious dread. These sorts of touches are all part of the grisly swamp consommé that week after week gives Preacher a bit of extra kick. There’s plenty of humor to be had as well, especially in the details. Like a Huffers Anonymous pamphlet entitled GLUE & YOU: Scary Signs of Sniffing… But "Gonna Hurt" otherwise falls apart a bit, especially in the last several minutes. Jesse and Cassidy may be self-proclaimed besties, but their tug of war over Tulip is getting old. As much as I’ve always liked Joe Gilgun, as a character, Cassidy has really worn out his welcome. And now that we know he’s armed with one of Gran’ma’s love spells, the sooner he hits the bricks, the better. Unless you’re one of those people who ships Cassidy and Tulip (I’m not). Otherwise, this love triangle threatens to sink the season. Which is a shame, given season three’s strong start. READ MORE...

Preacher Season 3 Episode 3 Review: Gonna Hurt

Cassidy is so disappointing on Preacher Season 3 Episode 3 . He's one of those characters who, just looking at him, you laugh. He doesn't even have to open his mouth. This season he's on my last nerve, and to stab Jesse in the back like he did was just unforgivable. I get that he has a crush on Tulip, but to go to Grandma for a spell? Dirty pool. Jesse even apologized to him (for what, I don't know), called him his best friend, and Cassidy goes and does that behind his back.   ...Read More... https://www.tvfanatic.com/2018/07/preacher-season-3-episode-3-review-gonna-hurt/

Preacher Season 3 Episode 2: Sonsabitches Review

I have very mixed feelings about this week’s Preacher. On the one hand, I love how much "Sonsabitches" crams into a single hour. On the other hand, I’m concerned about just how much is crammed into this single hour. Where season 2 seemed to lollygag and pussyfoot around (you heard me—lollygag and pussyfoot), season 3 is absolutely hustling and bustling. What would have unfolded across three or four episodes last season is packed into "Sonsabitches." Not that I’m complaining. I happen to like how complicated things are already, what with multiple, crisscrossing agendas. Plodding, this season of Preacher isn’t. As industrious as this episode’s machinations get, Jesse doesn’t get swallowed up or pushed aside as he did last season. Indeed, Madame L’Angelle’s wayward grandson holds his own amid a cavalcade of violent malcontents and backstabbers. He’s got L’Angelle blood running through his veins, after all—and Gran’ma L’Angelle has a bit of Jesse’s blood, too. Were it not for the blood pact that brokered Tulip’s resurrection, Jesse would be free to leave Angelville. Gran’ma’s voodoo is like an invisible fence, keeping her grandson from leaving the grounds. Preacher Season 3 Episode 1: Angelville Review

I didn’t realize how much I missed AMC’s gonzo comic book adaptation of Preacher until its season three premiere, "Angelville." This one episode contains the elements that make for such off-the-wall television: quirky, twisted humor, supernatural shenanigans, brutal brawls, and characters we love to hate. Indeed, Preacher is good with bad guys—the worst kinds of people. Unsavory malcontents with mean streaks a mile long. Odin Quincannon. Herr Starr. The Saint of Killers. Season three adds a few more baddies to this formidable rogues gallery. But let’s not forget, our heroes aren’t exactly saints themselves. Jesse Custer, Tulip O’Hare, and the vampire Cassidy—these are flawed people with mean streaks of their own, and rogues in their own right. But I suppose their sins, such as they are, mean very little in a universe in which God has shirked his Almighty duties and gone rogue himself. READ MORE...

Preacher Season 3 Episode 2 Review: Sonsabitches

On Preacher Season 3 Episode 2 , we find out that not only is Jesse trapped in Angelville with Grandma, but that he owes her a hell of a lot of souls. She eats them, you know. Her soul removal technique looks rather primitive, not to mention painful. I think she likes it that way. The medieval chair contraption she uses to rip out the souls of the not-so-innocent, looked scarier than any run of the mill electric chair. And that's saying something.   ...Read More... https://www.tvfanatic.com/2018/07/preacher-season-3-episode-2-review-sonsabitches/

Preacher Season 3 Premiere Recap: Antipathy for the Devil Plus: Was Tulip Left Pushing Up Daisies?

Betty Buckley iseverything. Within moments of her first appearance in the Season 3 premiere of Preacher, the Tony winner told us all that we needed to know about Jesses infamous grandma, Marie LAngell, and ratcheted up the series always-high level of bats into the stratosphere. In other words, she slayed. Which was ironic, considering that [] https://tvline.com/2018/06/24/preacher-season-3-episode-1-premiere-recap-tulip-lives/

Preacher Season 3 Episode 1 Review: Angelville

On Preacher Season 3 Episode 1 , Jesse and Cassidy rush to Angelville to ask Grandma to bring Tulip back from the dead. It feels like a close call because Tulip is sitting in purgatory with herself as a child, waiting for death to literally come knocking at the door. Angelville is a creepy little town, and I was surprised to find out Grandma killed Jesse's mom (her daughter,) and Jody killed Jesse's father. No wonder he never wanted to go back!  ...Read More... https://www.tvfanatic.com/2018/06/preacher-season-3-episode-1-review-angelville/
