Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode #12 Anime Review (Season Finale)

There’s been some good stuff in this show over the course of the season, especially since it kind of defied what a lot of people thought it was going to be about. While it had some awkward potential in terms of the siblings relationship at the start, when you realized they were just strangers that aren’t truly related, that eased the queasy factor significantly. And while you had a lot of fanservice bits early on that got a bit raunchy, it actually toned down things a lot as it progressed, though it had its moments to be sure. But it also gave us a male lead, who wasn’t in the show with the same regularity one might expect, who was pretty decent and nice and caring without having any active thoughts of real interest that you could discern towards Mitsuki. Though that kind of changes a little here towards the end, though that’s mostly because a certain someone is putting those thoughts in his head more than anything else. And he does have to admit that Mitsuki can be pretty cute. READ MORE...

As the series starts to throw in a few more interesting points, it’s also settled down a lot from those first few episodes. I rather liked the emotional side that came in recently with the thought of Hiyori going missing or passing on to the other side and how Mitsuki reacted since she realized how much of a positive impact she’s had beyond the main negatives. We also get the growing nudging going on about Yuya having seen Hiyori a number of times when Mitsuki thought nobody could see him. That’s a conflicting bit of material that hopefully gets resolved in this season so we understand why it’s happening, but it does generally add a little bit of confusion to the situation that keeps Mitsuki wondering what’s going on and adds a little cute chaos as well. Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode #10 #Anime Review

The ups and downs of the story here have been fairly decent overall, though the show has managed to not be as potentially awful as it could have been based on its initial selling. A lot of the fun comes from the simple misunderstandings that exist but with the two leads not being related, well, that’s eased a lot of the pressures. The awkwardness still comes there, especially with the supernatural side and the chastity belt and all, and we’re seeing how Mitsuki is really having a hard time coping with the situations she’s been caught in and how Yuya is potentially viewing her. Of course, the big elephant in the room is that more often than not, Yuya is actually seeing Hiyori when she and Mitsuki aren’t in the same body and that’s not really had a serious impact yet. But at least it’s been noticed. READ MORE...

‘Recently, My Sister Is Unusual’ Live Action Film Debuts First Trailer

There was much gnashing of teeth when the anime adaptation of the manga Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashii n da ga, aka Recently, My Sister Has Been Unusual, debuted but that was nothing compared to the announcement of the live action film earlier this year. The project, directed by Yuki Aoyama, now has a date set for May 17th, 2014 in Japan and the first trailer for it has debuted. Considering the anime and manga side has been fairly raunchy, it’s no surprise that the live action one is keeping to that spirit. The trailer features Tenko Hashimoto as Mitsuki in the film while gravure idol Mayu is taking on the role of Hiyori. And not forgotten is Yukichi Kobayashi who is taking on the role of the brother, Yuya. READ MORE...

Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode #09 Anime Review

Mitsuki hasn’t exactly been standing up for herself in a lot of ways when it comes to dealing with Hiyori, largely because she knows what’s needed in order to get all of this resolved without losing her own life in the mix. But she’s pushed back a few times and we saw a bit of that in the last episode at the aquarium. Hiyori can definitely get pushy along the way and that makes for some difficult times for Mitsuki since she sees her body and her relationship with Yuya used in so many uncomfortable ways. But she did make some moments of struggle with it that were good to see since she doesn’t want Hiyori to go too far, which is amusing considering some of the things that have happened. READ MORE...

Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode #08 #Anime Review

Into every life a little change must fall and that has happened once again for Yuya. When the well connected young woman in class gives him some tickets to an aquarium, it opens up the potential for him to take Mitsuki there since it could be fun. And let’s be honest, as decent and nice as Yuya is, he’s not exactly dating anyone. And it also says a lot, in a good way really, that he thinks first of bringing Mitsuki instead of finding someone else to go. Since the two of them are still figuring each other out due to the new living arrangements, it’s a nice thing to do, at least in my view, to take her someone and do some get to know you kinds of things. Of course, you know that it’s not exactly going to go smoothly because of not just Hiyori but also the way that Mitsuki herself is handling things these days in general and between the two of them after some of the recent situations. Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode #07 #Anime Review

While we had some really awkward moments for Yuya in the previous episode, mostly because of what Hiyori is doing, I keep finding myself really liking the guy. He’s in a bad situation, doesn’t even know it, and is continually trying to do the right thing when it comes to Mitsuki by treating her right. He’s concerned for her health and well being and the kinds of adjustments she (and he) are having to go through since suddenly being thrust together as brother and sister with no real blood bond there to help soften it some. It’s easy to rag on the guys in shows like this as the pervert who is just out to get the younger sister, but I’ve been glad that through the first half at least, they’ve largely avoided that gimmick and made him a sympathetic and accessible character, even if there isn’t a lot of real personality that there’s been shown to us. Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode #06 #Anime Review

Compromising positions are always the best way to start an episode and this one follows through from the previous one with Hiyori all over Yuya, though he’s not sure what’s going on or why Mitsuki is acting like this, which just complicates things as one would expect. While most shows of this nature play to the brother being interested in the sister in some ways, Yuya has largely been outside of the scope of events and either just getting caught up in it by accident or being oblivious to it. While there are awkward moments, he has generally been on the right side of things for much of the show so far and usually comes across as the guy trying to do the right thing more than anything else, especially for a girl that he essentially just met for the first time a few days earlier before the whole Hiyori situation exploded into Mitsuki. It’s just not a pretty situation all around for the three people involved. READ MORE...

Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode #05 Anime Review

With the series being pushed into a new timeslot on the Japanese broadcast networks, something that should have happened before it aired based on the material, the show moves easily into its next bit of fun. Which is full of swimsuits and fanservice taken the next level, which is made apparent in the prologue as you get Hiyori stripping down Mitsuki when she’s trying to get changed, which will show off the device she’s being forced to wear for the duration. The embarrassment Mitsuki exhibits is cute as is the playfulness that comes from Hiyori as she’s also just messing around. The two have an incredibly awkward relationship when you think about it, but they’re handling it about as well as could be based on how it’s been revealed so far. But the indoor pool episode may make it problematic. READ MORE...

‘Recently, My Sister Is Unusual’ Anime Moves To New Timeslot

In a move that’s not surprising in the slightest, the broadcast in Japan of Recently, My Sister Is Unusual is moving out of its 10pm time slot and into a late night slot. The show is one that surprised many in that it got the slot that it did originally with its frank inclusion of sexual practices and nudity, even with all the censoring. Depending on the broadcaster, it’s changing day of the week and/or time as you can see below. The series is currently being simulcast by Crunchyroll but they have not updated on when/if/where they’ll be moving the simulcast to, but it’s expected to follow the Tokyo MX change from Saturday to Tuesday.
