‘Steins; Gate’ Anime Feature Gets Full Promo, TV Ad

When Steins; Gate ended its TV run, we got the news then and there that there would be a movie produced from the storyline, which is finally arriving on April 20th in a few theaters in Japan. The TV series has done well in general and continues to find new avenues for release with goods, manga and now this feature film. The feature, which has a new two minute promo released and a short form TV commercial from Kadokawa, is set to provide a brand new story that takes place after the TV series, which is considered to be the "true end" path that was taken. The new feature is a continuation and not just a reworked version of what we had before, providing for an all new story. READ MORE...

Steins; Gate Episode #24 Anime Review

With the end of Steins; Gate, the previous episode gave us one hell of a treat by proving that everything that has come before had to come in order to get Okabe to the point in time that he’s at now. It’s not terribly convoluted in the end, but the structure of the world that has unfolded has certain benchmarks that must be hit in order for Okabe to change the world one final time in an attempt to fix it all and save those that are important to him. The series has hit such incredible highs when it comes to emotion and resonance in these last few episodes that having a future Okabe explain to him what must be done was poetic, as was the present day reaction of Okabe as he puts into motion his own operation to deal with it all. Steins; Gate Episode #23 Anime Review

With the previous episode of the series, Steins; Gate really took things to another level and one that people who signed onto it at the start likely never expected. With the way the show has worked the characters and their relationships with each other, it reached a high point there with the choices that needed to be made when it came to saving either Mayuri or Kurisu. Kurisu for her part really made it intense when it came to Okabe not wanting to do what he needed to do and that made their seemingly doomed relationship all the more tragic. Yet now we have Suzuna back and she’s telling him that saving Kurisu will be the way to prevent World War III. READ MORE...

Steins; Gate Episode #22 Anime Review

Steins; Gate has worked itself into a real problem that was sort of forgotten by the audience along the way. When the reality of the situation came up in that in order to fix everything, Okabe would have to choose between Kurisu living or Mayuri living, it puts an incredible amount of psychological pressure on him. Because of his use of the D-mail in order to save her life at the very start of the series, the divergence has caused Mayuri’s death. If he fixes that d-mail, then Mayuri should live. What’s complicating things is that Okabe and Kurisu have gotten along very well as the series progressed, but that’s just the icing on the cake as it’s a real moral quandary for the self described mad scientist. Steins; Gate Episode #21 Anime Review

With the progress that Okabe has made in trying to realign things, he’s come down to his last major stumbling block. Having secured the D-Mails that were sent by Moeka, Feyris and others and turning the page back, we’ve seen the divergence ease quite a lot. And interestingly enough, each time that he’s done this, Mayuri’s death occurs a day earlier than it had before to show that the changes are making an impact. But Okabe has to grapple with his main issue now in that the last D-Mail that he has to alter is the one that saved Kurisu’s life at the beginning of the series. With the two women very important to him, he has to do what he can to save Mayuri but without changing what happened to Kurisu. Considering the feelings that have blossomed between the two, it’s certainly a bigger issue than he anticipated. READ MORE...

Steins; Gate Episode #20 Anime Review

The previous episode was a killer in terms of emotion and meaning as we watched Okabe go head to head with Moeka over what she’s done and what she’s trying to do, as it all leads to Mayuri’s death. Moeka’s reasons and her mental collapse for the most part was really well done as she’s been pushed and prodded and no matter what Okabe could do, he couldn’t get through to her. It was a powerful piece when they were on the opposite side of the door and she went wild trying to get through to him in a way that few anime series really deal in. With the understanding that he can’t change things without changing what FB sends to her, that puts Okabe in a more precarious position, but one he has to get settled in order to save Mayurii. And it even means working with her to some degree. READ MORE...

Steins; Gate Episode #19 Anime Review

Okabe’s journey to bring things back to where it belongs, eliminating the divergence, has definitely been difficult as he has to get an understanding of what each message back in time was and how to undo it in order to line things up properly again. We’ve seen some definitely difficult things he had to deal with, particularly when it came to Feyris, and now he’s down to correcting what Moeka sent back in time. What he’s seeing is that no matter how many changes he makes though, Mayurii is continuing to die at the same time in every divergence path he’s been on, but he still believes that making that last final fix will be the thing that gets everything where it needs to be in order to properly save her. Steins; Gate Episode #18 Anime Review

After dealing with Feyris and actually making her an interesting character for awhile, which was difficult for me since I considered her to be the least interesting of them all, Okarin is now going to have to deal with the next phase of fixing things to bring everything back into order and ease the divergence. Of course, the more changes he makes to bring things back to parity, the more things he has to deal with in the day to day life to get everyone on board again, especially when it comes to Makise. With this instance, he’s going after Rukako who sent a text message to her mother before Rukako herself was born that seemingly changed her gender. READ MORE...

Steins; Gate Episode #17 Anime Review

With the loss of Suzuha in such a significant way, finding out how her life went and still realizing the things they need in the present to try and bring everything back to where it was, Okabe is in the terrible position of having to do a whole lot more in order to accomplish it. The painful part is the loss of certain things that have happened over time as the divergences continued, and Makise makes it even more patently clear to him how much it will impact her, at least for the moment, to know that she’d lose the moment when he called her by her first name. The two have grown closer, and the potential for losing a lot of that does sting with her. At the same time, she understands the need to go and fix everything since it’s spiraling out of control both in the present and in the future. READ MORE...
