The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “Wheel! Of! Family!”

For what may be the final episode of "The Cleveland Show", we got a particularly rousing, fast-paced intro to the amusingly-titled "Wheel! Of! Family!", as Cleveland and Donna rushed to get the kids to their various functions and whatnot. I loved the CB bits with C & D: "Round Mound of Brown, this is Hot Cocoa Bang Bang"- "Come in, good body!" We also got an amusing joke at soccer’s expense: "Yay, Rallo! I’m so proud of you for paying a sport that Americans are not good enough at to care about!" His idea for a gay sitcom was amusing, too: "God’s Mad About You." READ MORE...

The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “Crazy Train”

For the big season finale, we got a double dose of "The Cleveland Show," as we did with everything else across the board, also including "The Simpsons" (which itself featured "TCS" and "FG"-creator Seth MacFarlane) and "Family Guy". All of which made for a bit of an embarrassment of riches, given that we’re talking a solid three hour block of back-to-back MacFarlane-related material. So, how did "Cleveland" fare, given that it’s the lone offering of MacFarlane’s that may not survive another season? READ MORE...

The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “Mr. & Mrs. Brown”

On the second of two episodes of "The Cleveland Show," we got a Mother’s Day-themed episode, entitled "Mr. & Mrs. Brown" after the decidedly iffy lengths Cleveland goes to make his mother’s country club dreams come true. But first, we started with a little bit of football in the park for Cleveland, which did not end well, not in the least because, as Donna adeptly pointed out: "You can’t keep up with those guys. You get winded opening your email." As he recuperates back at the homestead, his parents walk in to see him covered nearly head to toe with frozen foods to heal his aches and pains. Freight Train, in particular, is not amused: "I knew one day I’d walk in here and see you on the couch covered in someone’s meat." But, as he needs a favor, LeVar pushes forward past the unfortunate sight before him: "I need you to take your mama to some country club. They gone be hobnobbing and cob-gobbling, so naturally, I thought of you." LOL. READ MORE...

The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “Of Lice & Men”

In the latest episode of "The Cleveland Show", the cheekily-titled "Of Lice & Men", Rallo ran afoul of some critters that spelled doom for his heretofore unquestioned coolness factor- the dreaded hair lice. Forced to shave his head, Rallo must don a wig to escape ridicule, but alas, his fellow students smell a rat…or at least a toupee. Friend: "You wearing a wig? Your hair smells like street-ball and weed!" Rallo: "It’s Herbal Essence." Not fooled for a second, his friend rips off the wig, exposing Rallo for the imposter he is, bald head and all. This leads to a decidedly hurtful nickname: Mr. Peanut, due to the unusual shape of his head sans hair. This matter is not helped when classmates provide him with a monocle, a top hat and a cane! The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “Grave Danger”

Well, looks like my potential prognosis of "The Cleveland Show" proved correct, as the show has seemingly been given its walking papers, at least according to Cartoon Brew, though FOX hasn’t yet given the official announcement. Given this alleged fact, it’s admittedly sort of appropriate that the next episode after- "Grave Danger"- should not only be an apt title, all things considered, but also revolve around Cleveland and the gang becoming regulars at a…wait for it…cemetery. Ah, the not-so-sweet ironies of life! READ MORE...

The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “Squirt’s Honor”

On more recent episodes of "The Cleveland Show," I’ve noticed a fun element of deconstruction to the proceedings that I don’t recall being there before. Granted, I wasn’t taking notes and paying extra close attention before I started reviewing the show this season, so it’s possible it’s always been an element of the show that they indulged in from time to time, but whatever the case, I like it. I’ve always gotten a kick out of the whole notion of breaking the so-called the "fourth wall," in which a show or movie lets you know they’re in on the joke, too. I remember seeing a lot of it in movies when I was a kid, in 80’s movies like "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off," where someone would talk directly to the camera; or in off-the-rails stuff like Mel Brooks’ work, where he would routinely do something unexpected- like the bit in "Blazing Saddles" at the end, where the movie we’ve been watching collides with the "real world" (or at least the "movie world") and things go completely haywire. The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “The Fist & the Furious”

On the latest episode of "The Cleveland Show," it was time for Cleveland to pay a visit to the doctor for a check-up in "The Fist & the Furious." Naturally, the show wasted no time in laying on the rectal exam jokes, leading to the following exchanges. Cleveland: "He’s gonna poke my booty hole!" Donna: "You don’t know that. He might not." Cleveland: "Oh, you’re right. Not in these frumpy dad pants. Boo." Doctor: "Oh, don’t worry, Cleveland. You’re not scheduled for an ass jam for another two months." Cleveland: "You’re still gonna do the cup ‘n’ cough, right? Cause this one should be free… (Pulls out punch card) Wait a minute…this is from the yogurt place! Ugh! They should not be doing that." The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “Who Done Did It?”

On the latest episode of "The Cleveland Show," it was murder mystery time, complete with an "Alfred Hitchcock Presents"-style intro, courtesy of Cleveland, Junior. On "Who Done Did It?" we tried to figure out who killed a local socialite, out of any number of suspects. After all Cleveland put Donna through with the whole retiring from work, lying to her about it, and blowing all his money in record time-thing, I suppose it was only fair that Cleveland pay the price for his recent behavior when he was the one accused of the crime and ended up getting incarcerated for his troubles. Not sure he necessarily deserved the not-so-happy ending he got- "What a Wonderful World," indeed- but that’s prison for you, I suppose. READ MORE...

The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “California Dreamin’ (All the Cleves are Brown)”

On the second of two episodes of "The Cleveland Show" that aired Sunday night, the gang decided to move to California so that Cleveland could pursue his dreams of being a baseball scout- a la Brad Pitt in "Moneyball"- in the amusingly-titled "California Dreamin’ (All the Cleves are Brown)." Not everyone was thrilled about the move, mentioning how they had dreams of their own they’d like to pursue if things were different, such as Rallo’s wry observation: "Yeah, right, my dream is to have a fat man lie on top of my mom all night." Chided Cleveland: "What I do when your mother sleeps is my business!" (I also liked that when Donna told Cleveland that his dream was coming true, he automatically went to: "I’m going back to the ‘Family Guy’ again?" LOL.) READ MORE...

The Cleveland Show Season 4 Review “The Hangover Part Tubbs”

On the latest episode of "The Cleveland Show"- one of two that evening- Donna was in full self-promotion mode in the wryly-titled "The Hangover Part Tubbs," in which she was among those vying for a slot on the school board. Her only problem? Cleveland being Cleveland, of course, and how she could keep him from screwing up her chances without hurting his feelings in the process. Her solution? To hire a lookalike to take his place, which led to some amusing situations. Though I liked the other episode that aired later that night more, this one had its moments, too. Like when Cleveland saw the faux Cleveland and wondered aloud if it was a time-traveling version of himself, only to have the "real" thing show up: "It’s me, future Cleveland. I’ve come to tell you that’s not what happened. She did replace you." LOL. I guess "Family Guy" isn’t the only one who can do time-travel jokes. READ MORE...
