It couldn't have been any other way. Way too much potential to be allowed to fail. Now...away from scyfy's grasp....things are going to get very interesting.

For any that are interested this is a link to the event where Jeff announces the great news, it even has the Expanse cast at the event.

https://twitter.com/Casanvar/status/1000234595680505856/video/1

(Hope this doesn't breech posting rules as the rules are not clear on what 'watch links' actually are, I assume its links to watch episodes of shows. This is NOT a link to watch the Expanse, only to some related news.)

At ISDC in Los Angeles on May 25, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced the big news, telling the gathering that, “I was talking to the cast half an hour ago, before the break for dinner started. I was telling them that we are working hard at Amazon to save The Expanse but it wasn’t a done deal yet. During dinner, ten minutes ago, I just got word that The Expanse is saved,” Bezos said to a big applause. “The show is extraordinary and these guys are unbelievably talented,” he added, pointing to The Expanse table.”

Apparantly this is the new scam the networks are playing to drum up publicity.

We are canceling the show you love!
NO, PLEASE DON'T!
Oh, ok, we have listen to you, because we care so much about your opinion.
We are bringing it back... just for you... you are special people... and soo smart... and good looking too, did we mention that.

Internal Memo: The morons fell for it again. Way to go, Johnson, rating are way up. The sponcers love this scam.

@Lolli123456 really..? that's the most ridiculous thing i have read on these forums.

1. The show was a SyFy channel show.. THEY cancelled it.
2. The show has now been bought and moved to another channel AMAZON. It is THEM that has now renewed the show NOT SyFy... so how can SyFy OR Amazon for that matter be trying to drum up publicity and send each other memos calling us all morons..?

The truth of the matter is the fact that SyFy just didnt want to pay out the production costs of the show so they did what they always do.. cancelled it. Luckily there was enough fan support (Reddit exploded with this cancellation) that Amazon realised the show could carry on for a few more seasons and bring them in some nice cash also so they bought the right for the show, then announced the renewal at their channel. SyFy has nothing at all to do with the show now.. it's ALL Amazon, and with how high their production costs usually are for their shows THIS is only a GOOD thing for The Expanse.

The new TV business model IS web based (Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, etc) and has been for a while. It is something that network and specialty tv stations either can't or won't understand or be capable of. I just wish the model was around when other excellent shows were cancelled but highly savable (Firefly anyone? :).

Really really glad that Amazon bailed this one out. If I had to pick sci-fi to un-cancel from the last 5 or so years, this one has about the highest worth regardless of production costs. 'Siffy' needs to fix that sifter for this one fell through too easily.

@Sylar Dean Paginton - Its a scam. Syfy only canceled it so Amazon could "revive" it. If you like the show, then great, you get at least another season. But don't think its a victory for the people.

From https://www.geekwire.com/2018/amazon-studios-reportedly-talks-reviving-expanse-syfy-cancellation/

Amazon Studios holds North American streaming-video rights to the first three seasons, and Netflix has international rights. The Hollywood Reporter said the fact that those companies were tapping into the show’s revenue streams “put additional pressure for the show to perform on its linear network,” implying that the arrangement may have contributed to Syfy’s decision to cancel after the third season ends in June.

In other words, Amazon (and Netflix) have such a monopoly on content that they basically forced Syfy to cancel it so they could pick it up and pump it for all the revenue they could manage. Moooooooo, said the corporate cow.

@Lolli123456 You are certainly correct, to a degree. Likely everyone involved knew the value, wanted more money than syfy could dish out...the rest is history. If syfy modernized and focused on quality programming ,they could probably have held ground. But we're talking about the home of sharknado and the further the team from the expanse could get, the better. Corporations are a natural occurrence of thousands of years of economics unfortunately, and they can suck pretty hard yes. But if we influence them they can be a good thing too. In this case it is a victory for the people because our desire to watch IS an influence, one of the few powers the individual and group of individuals still hold. I get what your saying, but for yourself as much as for the others, as I assume you're commenting as an aficionado, take a second and bask in the enjoyment of something you know you wanted and that the collective interest achieved. Or the greedy assholes really do win.

@Lolli123456 That doesn't make sense. Syfy chose to accept their original deal, a deal witrh Alcon Productions, not with Amazon. They chose not to have their own streaming service, like HBO Now. Even on Syfy's own The Expanse website they chose to only ever show the last five episodes. Sure, Amazon had the streaming rights for the US. But so did a bunch of other services, like Netflix, Google Play or iTunes. There is no conspiracy, just boring old business. Check out this graphic to better understand how the rights are distributed: https://destroythecomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/expanse-ownership-2.png

Syfy doesn't need The Expanse, they'll be fine. For the ratings they were getting from it, it wasn't worth hanging onto. Its great that we'll get to keep the show with Amazon, and in the long run, this will probably mean Syfy will be able to allocate more budget to their original series, and maybe they'll even have learned from the whole experience. I'm not a huge Expanse fan - I watch it, its okay, its kinda slow, i dont love any of the characters, but occasionally cool hardcore syfy things happen and it makes me wish the entire show was like that. I have to wonder if the dynamic of the show will change on Amazon. They have a lot of funding. Maybe we could see more Alien vs Powersuit battles and Space barrior collisions. I'd like that. I'm looking forward to Syfy's new series later this year, Deadly Class and Nightflyers. Lets see how those go.

@ShetQuaker....it's not just that it was slow, it was the characters and the actors. Didn't take to any one of them. Glad though that so many do enjoy it and that it now has a new home for everyone to watch it on :)

This is a good news at least because not only I enjoy the series because I want to know more about the fiction universe they portrait. Hope Lucifer has the same luck having a new season after the cliffhanger the last season, speaking of great season closers really, if not to much to ask, Dark Matter have another season to at least close some of the current plots. I really love that series too.

SyFy is pretty obviously run by really dumb people at this point, people that wouldn't know real science fiction if it bit them on the ass. While they continue to put out middle and low brow 'action' content from the Vancouver rubber suit factory aimed at an undereducated and/or teenage demographic, every now and then someone brings them something decent, but, blind to quality versus flash, they cancel it.

Just watched the great finale to The Expanse, which is easily the best science fiction on television right now, partially because there is so little else but largely because it is nicely put together. Looking forward to next season.
