'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' and 'The League' make solid debuts on FXX

The first night of original programming on FXX was a pretty good one. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "The League" began life on their new channel by retaining most of the audience they had on FX."Sunny" opened its ninth season to a total audience of 757,000 people. That's down about 28 percent from 1.05 million for its Season 8 premiere in October 2012. FXX is in about 73 percent as many homes as FX is, so the drop is pretty much in line with its smaller subscriber base. The shows' demographic numbers are a little, uh, sunnier: The show retained 80 percent of the 18-49 viewers from the Season 8 premiere (648,000 vs. 809,000) and 85 percent of the 18-34 audience (527,000 vs. 622,000). It even improved a little among men ages 18-34."The League" fared even better in its new home. Its fifth-season premiere built on the "Sunny" lead-in and scored 786,000 viewers (compared to... //

'The League' Season 5 premiere: Ruxin quits for the 'Domination League'

For the fifth season premiere of "The League," which has moved from FX to spinoff channel FXX -- get help finding FXX here -- the guys and Jenny took off for Los Angeles for Andre's "destination wedding" to Trixie. But of course they manage to squeeze in their fantasy football draft. The best part of the premiere is that Ruxin, who earned the Sacko last year for finishing last, does not want to go along with the Sacko punishments, so he temporarily joins Rafi's League of Domination. As with everything Rafi touches in life, the Domination League is terrifyingly weird. "It's not the draft, we don't have gerbils or hot sauce!" and "It's exactly like the Hotel California!" Oh, and we're with Dirty Randy -- do not insult Don Henley. One of our fantasy football team names is "Vinegar Strokes," but we're considering changing that to "Trident Made of Dildoes."Eventually, all is right with the world... //

'The League' Season 5: Paul Scheer talks Andre's wedding, FXX and 'ArScheerio Paul'

brightcove.createExperiences(); Things are about the change for Paul Scheer's Andre on "The League." He's getting married to Trixie (Jayma Mays), which surely means the time has come to become a responsible adult and put the sillier things behind him, right? Not at all. Paul spoke with Zap2it at the FXX network launch party about just how ridiculous things will continue be."Oh my God, things are changing! No, they're not," he says. "It's the same old stuff, the same characters doing more funny stuff." One of those things includes his actual wedding, which has a theme. "It's a little bit like a bar mitzvah meets a wedding. It's 'Top Gun' inspired and it's called 'Top Groom.' So there's some classic Maverick/Goose references." That sounds very promising. What about draft day, though? After all, "The League" isn't "The League" without fantasy football. Due to poor planning somewhere along the line, the annual draft falls during the weekend... //

The League Casts Andre’s Parents, Promises "Miserable" Wedding in Season 5

Andre may not have won the Shiva Bowl on The League last season, but did he end the season on a big personal high note. "As we left last season, Andre and Trixie were engaged so we are picking up right where that left off with a wedding," co-creator and executive producer Jeff Schaffer said at the Television Critics Association fall TV previews Friday. "I think Andre and Trixie are preparing the...   //

'The League' Creators on FXX Move: It's Like Going to Heaven

Will 'The League' add another female? Plus Season 5 casts Andre's parents

After the 2013 TCA panel for "The League," Zap2it spoke with Jackie Marcus Schaffer, one half of the creative team behind the FX comedy, who told us that the writers have definitely talked about adding another female to the fantasy football mix besides Jenny. "We've talked about a few different things," says Schaffer. "We've talked about Jenny getting into a girls league, where she starts a second league, where she brings in a lot of other -- like the moms and other characters. It's never quite made it into an episode yet, but we've certainly talked about it." "At some point in time as we go over the next few seasons, it would be nice to see, whether it's one of their girlfriends or wives, maybe somebody we haven't met yet, get involved [in the league]," Schaffer adds. We wonder if the resident female fantasy player, Jenny, would see another woman as a "sister" in... //
