Leonard Barrie "Barry" Corbin (born October 16, 1940) is an American character actor with over 100 credits in film and television and several in computer games. Corbin was born in Lamesa, Texas, the son of Kilmer Blaine Corbin, a judge and Texas State Senator (1948-1956), and Alma La Merle Scot Brooks, a school teacher. A former United States Marine, he studied theater at Texas Tech. He began his career as a Shakespearean actor back in the 1960s, but today Barry is most likely to be seen in the role of the local Sheriff, military leader, or other authority figure, though on occasion, he has effectively portrayed murderous villains as well. Television viewers may remember him best for his portrayal of former astronaut Maurice Minnifield on Northern Exposure, for which he received an Emmy nomination.
