Has five older siblings: Jorge André, Isabel Maria, Ana Maria, José António and João. His paternal grandfather José António Baptista de Almeida (b. Lagos, 1887, d. Lisbon, 1950), was also a pharmaceutical (diplomed by the Pharmacy School of Lisbon in 1909) and the founder of J.A.B.A Laboratories.

His mother, Maria Sara, died on March 22th 2007, at the age of 82.
