After the discovery of the body of one of Prof. Seager's students in the attic of the college, Lewis and Hathaway realize that the key to Seager's murder lies in a past crime. Hathaway, wracked with guilt over the suicide of a suspect he questioned, comes to a decision about his future as a policeman.
