Supernatural Discussion: 5 or 6 Seasons - Featured

Awhile back, Supernatural creator Eric Kripke revealed that he had a concrete 5-season plan for the run of the series.

Kripke's contract with the series is also for 5 seasons.

However, a 6th season is looking increasingly likely; both series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are contracted for that additional, 6th season.

So my question is: Would you rather see the series run for the 5 seasons that its creator envisioned? Or...assuming the series stars are returning (though it's possible that creator Eric Kripke would not), are you game for a Season 6?

Supernatural Season 5 Premieres on The CW Thursday, September 10th

I'm game for a 6th season. As long as they don't ruin the show in an attempt to make it last longer. But I also understand that when something's over, it's over. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see what happens in season 5 to see if a sixth season if possible.

Although i agree that the show should not continue if the creator is leaving, i disagree that the show has been getting worse since season one. Season 1 was just an introduction to the world that the brothers live in, and since then the out and out best episodes have been in other seasons, folsom prison blues (season 2) and jus in bello (season 3) some of my personal favourites. If the creator envisioned just 5 seasons then thats all it should be, as sad as it will be to see it go!

I couldn't agree more "fullwingedlove". None of us want Supernatural to dwinle into just another show that went downhill because it went 1 season too long. Finish it after season 5 and let it be remembered for the kick ass show it is.

what would life be without the Winchesters' brothers??? (sighs...) go for season 6,7,8,9,10.... or do 30 episodes for season 5 and 30 for season 6 until season 10. Do not end Supernatural puhh-lease!

Great show, but it should not fall into the trap of overdoing it. The story of Lucifer and the apocalypse that will play out in the fifth season seems a fitting conclusion to the show.

While yes, this show may have taken a few steps up-hill, at least from the place where it was season three, I would have to say that the idea of creating another season is not smart. Kripke originally planned for five seasons for a reason. He, being a fanboy, realized that shows run out of steam or just go on-and-on-and-on-and-on. Which is why there should only be five seasons. Does anyone realize how ridiculous the plot is going to be if the show continues? I'm as big of a fangirl as the next gal in line, but this show has continually gotten worse. Am I the only one that seems to remember the pure brilliance that was season one? A finale that topped many other shows? Just think how the show has progressed since then. It has gotten to the point where the plot should be considered a complete AU from where it used to be. Season four did make up for the all that had been wrong with season three, but it was nowhere near the levels that season one reached. That just goes to show how Supernatural has steadily declined since its premiere season. What keeps many fans coming back each season is the relationship between the brothers. Sure, the supernatural aspects are an added bonus, along with the actual actors that portray the characters. But, most fans do not watch for mainly that. It was the complex relationship between Sam and Dean that made the show. But, last time I checked, that bond hasn't been present in quite awhile. Even in season three, they were constantly torn apart. One would be kidnapped, or go off on his own. In season four, they were never together, and if they were tension between the brothers was clear-as-day. Yes, the scene between Sam and Dean, where Dean angrily said the same line as John had pre-show, was awesome. But, that just demonstrates how the characters have changed since season one. Dean never would have uttered that to Sam, nor would he have fought with Sam in such a way during season one. It is understandable that characters need to evolve in a show, however, that does not mean that they need to lose sight of all that they once were, everything that made them once great. After that long winded rant, I would merely like to restate my opinion that the continuation of Supernatural past season five is a horrible idea.
