Want to see Michael C pull a rabbit out of his hat? Just watch tonight's episode of Project Runway where the designers had to create an outfit to go along with a, dare I say, wacky Philip Tracey hat. One looked like a cooked shrimp, another like an overgrown olive and one wasn't a hat at all, it was a lacy, cat's eye mask.
Hat maker Tracey warned the designers to use the hat as inspiration in style and proportion and not to try matching it directly to the garment. The judges had a field day with this, constantly referring to several of the outfits as too "matchy-matchy." Don't you just hate that? I know I do.
When the designers began sketching, there were some terrific shapes and interesting ideas but many of those got lost in translation when it came to the final garments. Valerie said she was going David Bowie but ended up with Stevie Nicks. Mondo put a mustache on his model. Don't ask me why. And then there was poor Michael C. He bought this flowing, bronze material that had the unfortunate tendency to pucker at the seams. When he told Tim he was worried about the dress, Tim bolstered him up with an, "I'm not going to tell you not to worry." Yikes. With half the day gone, Michael decided he had no choice but to start over.
