90.210...lbs? - Are the Beverly Hills Girls Too Thin?

Ahh shrinking stars! Scary stuff. They look quite creepy in the US Weekly cover photo - I wish that were done up for impact, but sadly, that's really how they're looking. As a (cough, cough) Degrassi fan, I was shocked to see Shenae Grimes appearing in the 90210 promos - not because she's a terrible actress who didn't deserve the CW break, but because, yes, she had shrunken from tiny to minuscule! Both girls were already small, but it's crazy to see how ridiculously skinny they look in the show and in these shots. I say too much even for the madness of Hollywood.

Ok, first I had the idea for this post. Second, on TV it looks like actors put on 15lbs, so it's understandable that the cast wants to loose a few. If you look at it that way, if you're 5'8 and 105 lbs in real life, that's like being 5'8 and 120 on TV, which is kinda fat for a supermodel. The before/after pics do a good job in underscoring the concern that our actresses were a bit under-fed during the 90.210 shooting. But with the dominant aesthetic these days (see Gossip Girl) I wouldn't expect to see

Too skinny indee. I noticed when i watched the first 4 episodes that what-her-name who plays Annie has a biiiig head for such a skinny frame. Noooo posh spice look alike

I have never watched the show but looking at the pictures and watching previews i have noticed that Shenae Grimes has gotten too skinny. I doubt that being that thin is healthy, and from an asthetic standpoint who actually finds that look atractive. She looked healthy and very hot and Degrassi.

Ok, enough with the "too thin" obsession. If these women feel good at their weight, then there is no problem. It is too easy to see a photo and judge (a photo which might have been thinned out more than really was the case). I am a bit fed up about this "non-issue" comparative to our cultural obesity which is a real issue. I think we should be pointing out stars who are too fat which is a severe health risk. Not a bit chubby, like these women above are a bit underweight. I mean fat. I have a difficult time finding clothes to fit me in North America because if you are size 4 or below, you are often out of luck. That these women are thin (acutally the one on the right is the only one who looks "too thin") is a subjective issue that each individual herself can only judge.

Shenae almost looks like a different person in those before and after shots..I know how difficult eating disorders can be and I hope that they don't fall into that darkness!

I've noticed that the girls during the show only eat a bowl of salad or a bowl of fruit, while the boys eat burgers. but I think untill they realize what they are doing is wrong, just keep letting them kill themselfs, "forcing" them to put on weight will probably be terrible for them.

Wow, there really is a lot of difference between the before and after shots. I just started watching the show today and I did think they all look really skinny (even with the added weight from the cameras). I actually think they looked prettier before the lost weight. I really don't get today's beauty stereotypes, it just encourages girls to not be healthy. I mean really, there's thin and then there's just plain anorexic, and anorexic is just not attractive, or is it? I mean, do guys really like women that skinny?

Naturally thin is one thing. I've known someone who's a size 4 (equivalent to a US size 0), and someone who's a size 2. But I know they're healthy. I've seen them eat and they are in proportion! No big heads!Yeah fat is unhealthy, but nobody aspires to be fat. But people do aspire to be celebrity thin.

from the moment this show started i thought the girls were too thin---and i'm from LA! I really feel like they are trying to make this show into an extension of Gossip Girl. But the girls on that show, while still thin and beautiful, look HEALTY! I'm used to seeing super skinny girls walking around every day, but i have to say that it made me feel uneasy watching these actresses. i think my days keeping tabs on west beverly high are over, i'll stick with Blair and Serena!!

Disfasia, I recently watched a documentry on how women get to that size. It's not about feeling natural, the fact is they literally purge their bodies. Yes, purge is a horrible word but they really do. It's insane the lengths they go to, they mix this cocktail of his energy drinks, with no carbs, then while their body is running on 0 nutrients and minerals, they go for a run. No, I dunno if you've ever seen anyone who doesn't have any energy to run, it's distressing, they look like they could keel over. In fact, they may feel comfortable in that kind of body, but it's not a physical comfort, it's a psychological comfort (purely a need to be skinny, under the impression that they'll look better). I understand why though. Pressure from agents, magazine shoots, people like Halfswissyme, saying that they look better when their body is devouring itself for nutrients. In my opinion, Hollywood doesn't need skinny people to make good shows. There's been shows that have been brilliant and haven't included stupidly good looking or insanely thin people.
