Oh Motown! The lyrics "Sugar pie, honey bunch" and "I've got sunshine on a cloudy day" may be dancing in your head, but let's hope our remaining Idols pick more interesting and original songs from the genre's vast catalogue.
I don't know about you, but I still haven't quite recovered from last week: Alexis getting the boot over Michael Sarver, Scott MacIntrye, or (in my dream of dreams) Adam Lambert? Yes, I said Adam, but I'm sorry, I cannot get over his awful version of "Ring of Fire." I can absolutely admit that Adam is unique and talented, but holy crap that was an awful performance.
Let's also chat about this "singing for your life" bit. Jasmine, Jorge and Alexis were all forced to sing the last song they sang before being given the boot, and many times, that poor song choice contributed to them ending up in the bottom spot. Why would anyone want to sing the song that got them booted by America? As Alexis pointed out, perhaps the producers should allow them to sing a song of their choice that could actually change the judges' minds? I agree, sister!
Tonight, the Idols are treated to spending time with Motown mentors Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson. But before we meet them, the hopefuls are flown to Detroit to see where Motown and Hitsville all began, and their tour guide were Smokey and Berry. How freakin' excited were they? The history! The hits! Please, please guys, don't muck this up!
