Scrubs: Turk and Carla Said What?!

Scrubs was the last of NBC's Big 4 comedies to return last night, and much like The Office and 30 Rock before it, it did not disappoint.

First off, I'd just like to comment that JD's opening dream sequence - where he and Turk were playing Space Invaders by throwing water balloons off of the roof at the interns (who, to mimic the movements of the aliens in the game moved their arms up and down in a robotic manner) was absolutely brilliant. Honestly, it was my favorite part of the episode.

I thought that JD's story line tonight was kind of a throw-away...JD promises a high school student/burn victim that he'll get him to his graduation, only for the student's condition to worsen, forcing JD to take creative measures to keep his promise (which was then was a failure anyway, as we heard the screams of the boy in pain and falling as he walked across the stage, which I actually found rather unfunny - and not really matching the tone of the rest of the episode).

Tonight's episode was all about Turk and Carla. Turk learns Spanish as an anniversary gift to Carla, only to realize that it might be more valuable kept as a secret (which he discovers after he hears Carla tell a friend in Spanish that she would make him Brinner - breakfast for dinner - if only he would clean the apartment). Turk the keeps secret and learns a few additional valuable pieces of information from Carla until Dr. Cox outs him. Carla is understandably mad at first, but quickly forgives.

However, the juiciest part of the episode was Turk and Carla's little private Spanish exchange at the very end (they discussed how now that they both knew Spanish, they could have private conversations in public). Luckily for you, I know a little Spanish. The gist of the exchange: Turk points at JD and Elliot and says that he bets they'll be back together in two weeks. Carla responds that some people might not like that and Turk then shrugs.

Obviously it was no surprise that Turk thinks JD and Elliot will get back together. The real question is, what did Carla mean when she commented that people won't like it? Does she mean characters on the show (like Keith, who I am sad to see gone) or us viewers? It could easily be both. I think the show has set up JD and Elliot as a Ross/Rachel kind of couple for awhile now. However, I thought that when the two finally got together a few seasons ago, but then JD dumped Elliot almost immediately because he realized once he had her that he didn't actually want her that this would be the end of things (I mean, how can they undo that).

What do you think? Do you want JD and Elliot to end up together? Who do you think the show was claiming would be mad about it?

I think it would be HIGHlarious to see Barry and Harrison together, since they are mentioned so much but have never been shown yet, that would be such a great side-addition!! But I don't mind one way or another about J.D. and Elliot, I just don't want J.D. to get back with Kim AT ALL. Kim didn't really stand out as a girlfriend to me, but it would be nice to see her once in a while. P.S. since we're on a subject of relationships, who wants to see The Todd in one? LOL I personally would think it would be funny to see him in a one-episode relationship just to see how that goes....but that's just me.

I dunno how it would work but i think J.D and elliot should end up together but not together i.e romantically so there should be something that will always tie them together, dunno what or how but would be nice twist and a bit less blunt than them never being together

The other theory that I've heard is that Kelso's son, Harrison, will get together with Elliot's brother, Barry.

I was talking about the relationship possibilites on Scrubs, and one theory is that something would happen to Kim so that Elliot and JD could be together, and Elliot would have a baby. That kind of thing is getting old, and I think viewers are ready for something different. But if you remember Private Dancer from Season 6, he said to Elliot to call him if she were ever single. That would leave room for JD and Kim to get back together and try to make it work.

Its been a recent rumor that abc is picking up scrubs. I would hate for elliot and jd to get back together. We've seen that. over and over again. its not original and the writers can do better.

When visiting the Harvard Lampoon, Zach Braff announced last year that this would be the final season.

so im very sure that there is going to be a season 8... i listened to the audio commentary for episode 707 and if you listen to the full commentary around 4:55 one of the producers, Randall Winston says there is going to be an 8th season on a different network. Yea! im so happy

I think that they were refering to some of the viewers because some people would hate for jd and elliot to get back together, but that's is my opinion although I do hope that jd and elliot get back together, i really do.

Didn't they say 5 weeks not two? Well either way, I am interested, I love this show

i disagree, i think there are some viewers out there who don't think j.d. and elliot should end up together and i'm one of them. i think it would be the typical ending for an off-again, on-again relationship-based sitcom (example: friends) but it would be nice if scrubs didn't end off that way. i think j.d. and elliot are the perfect friend-couple: they always know what the other thinks and what bugs them, what they want and what they wish they hadn't done...i think they're the perfect BEST FRIENDS and they should stay that way. i agree with what RachelL said - how can they undo the horror that was the end of season 3? at that moment i thought j.d. was the biggest jerk in the world for wanting elliot for so long, and then after having her for a week (or less) deciding that he doesn't want her anymore. elliot deserves way better than that - although what she did with keith wasn't great either. i think j.d. and kim should end up together - they're such a great couple, they really connect, and after time i think j.d. would forgive kim for lying about the pregnancy. in the end i think both j.d. and elliot are too screwed up to end up together; it would fail like all the previous attempts.

thanks for the post, it was bugging me not knowing what they said... just as a little corrector, the sequence with JD and Turk playing space invaders as the targets wasn't, a dream sequence, they actually did it (yes, i know it's just a series, but noen the less)... Great episode to come back from a long Scrubs free period.

Good points, and by the people not liking it, she means the people of the hospital. I remember either Dr. Cox or the Janitor saying that everyone was sick of them and their romantic struggles. So by them hooking up yet again, the hospital would be displeased. It couldn't be the viewing public (us) because I'm pretty sure none of us would want them to not get together. They should be together, it's the perfect way to end the series. They just need to do it the right way.

Dont forget that JD and Elliot have been on and off for a few seasons. Whenever Elliot had a boyfriend, JD wanted Elliot. Remember Sean the dolphin/whale trainer? JD persuaded Elliot to dump Sean and go out with him only to break elliot's heart. They are definitely a Ross/Rachel type couple and i hope they stay together if there is a season 8
