Family Guy: "Brian Griffin's House of Payne" Review

It's been a while since Family Guy had this many big name guest stars in one episode. Elijah Wood, James Woods, and Charlie Sheen all in one story! Sounds like it would make for an awesome story, right? Right? Well...not so much.

This episode opened with a nicely done space battle intro in 3D. In some parts this is really high quality stuff, almost like watching an episode of Battlestar Galactica. It's an obvious Star Wars parody, and perhaps a precursor to that new Return of the Jedi parody they've been working on?

Stewie finds an old script that Brian wrote, and it turns out to actually be good. Some TV execs bring it to life, providing enough material to fill half this episode with unremarkable comedy, including the meeting with the TV execs. The "Jewish guys with huge noses" gag was funny at first, but it was ruined by the "Italians aren't Jews" punchline. Later, Stewie is knocked into a coma after an unfortunate rendezvous with a staircase. Meg and Chris have to play it off to avoid getting into trouble, resulting in enough plot to fill the other half of the episode.
