The Pacific: "Part Three" Review

Our battered marines find a hero's welcome waiting for them in Australia. They get a chance to rest, recover, and get the kind of loving that only a desperate soldier who may die tomorrow can appreciate. But all is not well for our intrepid cast of characters - love is often lost in times of war.

The episode starts with surprisingly cheerful celebrations for the arrival of the now famed fighting marines in Melbourne. Most of the Aussies view the visiting Yankees as saviors who prevented a Japanese incursion into the land down under. But all this adoration doesn't get the boys much - they're housed in a cricket stadium for the duration of their stay. While it's better than sleeping in the jungle, it doesn't line up with their perceived status as heroes - certainly a statement on the true, nebulous nature of that hero title.
