Favorite TV Couples: Top 10 Perfect Couples, Part 2 - Featured

Friday Night Lights - Eric & Tami Taylor

Eric: You know who I miss? I miss the coach's wife.

Tami: You know who I can't wait to meet? The principal's husband.

Eric: Touche.

The Taylors represent pretty much my favorite married couple currently gracing our TV screens. FNL manages to portray one of the most honest and realistic marriages I have ever seen on television. Things aren't always necessarily perfect for the two, but there's never any doubt that the two will love and support each other through everything and that ultimately things will work out. I also love the balance of power in this modern marriage; we really believe that both Eric and Tami have equal say in all of the happenings in the Taylor household.

ER - Doug & Carol

Carol: I can't remember a time when I didn't love him.

I am sure that there have been nurse/doctor love stories on TV before ER and I am sure that there have been ones after (like Turk and Carla on Scrubs). However, never was there a more perfect medical coupling than these two and never was ER better than during the Carol/Doug seasons. What can I say? The Clooney brought magic to the small screen and he had perfect, believable chemistry with Julianna Marguiles.

Alias - Sydney & Vaughn

Vaughn - When you're at your absolute lowest, at your most depressed, just remember that you can always..you know. You got my number.

She was a double agent for the CIA (and SD-6). He was her handler. Oh yeah, and they were both smokin' hot. Throw in some quiet spy/handler rendezvouses in private places and we were just holding our breaths until the two finally jumped each other. Seriously, the chemistry between Sydney and Vaughn before they officially "got together" fueled the first season and a half of Alias like no show I have ever seen before. And once the two did get together and experienced their fair share of problems; there was never a time when we weren't rooting for the two to work things out, nor did we ever doubt that their love would prevail.

One Tree Hill - Nathan & Haley

Haley: Always..

Nathan: and Forever.

Lucas and Peyton who? Far and wide my favorite coupling of One Tree Hill has turned out to be the pairing of Nathan and Haley, or Naley. Nobody ever said that getting married in high school would be easy (or realistic), but One Tree Hill has turned this unlikely high-school marriage into the most convincing and absolute best pairing of the show. Nathan and Haley are not without their struggles either, but we know these two always believe in each other, and consequently, we believe in them.

Friends (1994) - Ross & Rachel

Ross: You got off the plane.

The iconic couple of Friends (though Monica and Chandler ended up coming awfully close...) who we laughed and cried with through 10 seasons. Through accidental marriages and accidental children, whether the two were dating or were on a break...there was never a doubt how the series would end; after all, Ross and Rachel were each others' lobsters.

Some runners-up: Marshall & Lily (How I Met Your Mother), Felicity & Ben (Felicity), Lorelai & Luke (Gilmore Girls), Ephram & Amy (Everwood), Max & Liz (Roswell)

We also know that there's a ton more...so don't be shy. Share in comments - who do you think are the perfect TV couples?

All ships aside here's my list (and yes it's true I'm just not a fan of a couple of these pairings but I can't deny that they are destined) 1) Corey and Topanga (Boy Meets World)You simply can't beat that kind of devotion. 2) Chuck and Blair (Gossip Girl)This is a ship that I definitely root for. An unlikely pairing that works. I'm of the mind that these two people not only belong together, but couldn't possibly be happy with anyone else. 3) Spike and Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)Angel was an important part of Buffy's life but in the end it's Spike who loved her without the aid of a soul, it's Spike that was the only one that she could bear to be around after coming back from Heaven, it's Spike who got a soul for her, and it's Spike she chose as her hero in the end. So as much as I did love Angel, Spike won me over in the end. 4) Seth and Summer (The OC)What more is there to say about this one? They just work. 4) Phoebe and Cole (Charmed)Sure, they didn't turn out in the end which might make them more star-crossed than "perfect" but I don't think that there has been a better match in TV history. 5) Nathan and Haley (One Tree Hill)Who cares who Lucas is with? It's this couple that anchor the show and it's their romance that inevitably keeps us watching. 6) Joey and Pacey (Dawson's Creek)Face it, she and Dawson just didn't have the kind of chemistry that she shared with Pacey. In the end it was a no brainer. 7) Luke and Lorelai (Gilmore Girls)This is one of those couples I said was on here even though I'm just not a fan. I always kind of wanted Lorelai with Christopher (as I'm sure that you can tell from the list I have a thing for bad boys gone good). But I must admit that in the end the perfect couple of Gilmore Girls falls to Luke and Lorelai. 8) Meredith and Derek (Grey's Anatomy)Sure they have their difficulties but when it all comes down to it, the are the couple that the show revolves around and it's their romance that's legendary. 9) Ross and Rachel (Friends)They are each other's lobster, you can't fight that! 10) Angel and Cordelia (Angel)Reason number 2 why Buffy and Angel don't make my list. Angel's true match was Cordelia. Too bad she slept with his kid, got pregnant, had a creature, and died. 11) Lucy and Kevin (7th Heaven)No other guy could ever take the incessant whining of Lucy Camden. They are in all aspects a perfect couple. 12) Piper and Leo (Charmed)Whoa, two from one show *gasp* I was never a huge fan of the couple. Sure I wanted them together but I preferred the passion of the earlier mentioned Charmed couple

Alrightie, time for my TOP TEN PERFECT COUPLES. You may not agree with me, you may agree with me. Remember, this is just my opinion. Okay, go. By the way, these are in no particular order. 1. Michael and Maria - Roswell2. Brooke and Lucas - One Tree Hill3. Kuzco and Melina - Emperor's New School (Who said it had to be live action tv. I like my cartoons)4. Rory and Jess - Gilmore Girls5. Luke and Lorelai - Gilmore Girls6. Alex and Isabel - Roswell7. Kyle and Tess - Roswell8. Nathan and Haley - One Tree Hill9. Jake and Peyton - One Tree Hill10. Nate and Jenny - Gossip Girl I'm too tired to do commentary. But there are some honorable mentions: Haley and Chris (One Tree Hill), Max and Tess (Roswell), Rory and Tristan (Gilmore Girls). Okay so I like some of the couples that everyone else hates. I can't help it.

@generally. Suggest a queer couple then - an actual one! We in no way intend to suggest that there aren't perfect gay couples...it just turns out that the authors of this article aren't familiar with The L Word or Queer as Folk, which I imagine would be the source of many...Beyond that, I think there honestly aren't that many prominent gay couples on TV.I'm a big fan of Kevin/Scotty on Brothers & Sisters and have talked about that couple much in the past, but that's pretty much the only gay couple (with main characters) I'm even aware of on today's television. I liked David/Keith back when Six Feet Under was on, but I always found that coupling a little too tumultuous to include on a perfect couple list!
| Mar 10, 2009 9:05PM EDT
It's absolutely lovely how there are no queer perfect couples, isn't it. Whatevs. I hope one day that some will appear on these things. As it stands, I think House and Wilson, when they get together, will bump one of the couples off this list. :)

Lorelai and Luke need to be on that list

So, I'm not a fan of TV couples that just exist in perfection. There have to be times when they get on each other's nerves, when there are little awkward moments - there has to be great buildup. hence my favorite TV couples: - Josh and Donna (The West Wing). Their chemistry throughout the entire show was great, and they really loved each other as friends - but you didn't get the satisfaction of seeing them together until the very end. A pretty great consolation prize for sticking with the show even with the absence of Sorkin. - Jim and Pam (The Office) rightfully deserve to be on that list. Their relationship is so real. They have awkward moments. They have doubt. They get mad at each other. There was unnecessarily absurd amount of frustrating buildup before their love was finally consummated. And let's be honest, I'm not that attracted to either of them. If I were in Jim's place, I'd have been more interested in Karen. But as an outsider, you know that the JAM love runs way deeper than anything else out there; the bond that comes from pranking Dwight cannot be broken. And as much as Jim is always joking, you know Pam is the one thing he's dead serious about. This is one couple that is never breaking up. - Buffy and Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel) - The success of this never-officially-existent relationship is largely a testament to the acting skills of James Marsters and Sarah Michelle Gellar, as well as Whedon's flawless direction. This was a complicated love, pulled off brilliantly. The transition from Spike's (a soulless vampire) intense killer obsession with Buffy, to a couple of seasons of buildup of soulless Spike's unrequited "love" for Buffy is flawless. But even that - it doesn't stop there. Buffy slowly grows to actually trust him as a friend (despite him being soulless), then decides she hates her life and starts banging him (very sexily) in self-destruction, then he violates her, then he realizes his "love" was never really true and he goes and gets a soul, and then they FINALLY become truly close... and then he goes and kills himself to save the world. Still, the comics are still going and I am convinced they will wind up together still. Their extremely complex relationship is incredibly real (the romance with Angel feels forced), and meant to be. Phoebe and Cole (Charmed) - Their relationship is actually eerily similar to something out of Buffyverse, but sadly, the canon says they're not meant to be. Nevermind that; the show jumped the shark right after their relationship ended. I almost didn't care whether Phoebe and Cole turned out good or evil, as long as they were together. Luke & Lorelai (Gilmore Girls) - Again, Luke isn't the one I would go for. (Rory's dad? Way more my type). Still, Luke and Lorelai have that frustratingly slow-to-express itself love that feels destined from the beginning of the show. Again, they really love each other as friends and people first. I doubt either could imagine life without the other. Justin and Brian (Queer as Folk) - Man, another great complicated couple. There wasn't buildup in the traditional sense, since they hooked up pretty much right away in the series. But Brian's refusal to admit the depth of his emotions provided plenty of buildup fodder over the seasons, and the eventual admission of "I love you" is one of my favorite moments in television. The ending is also beautifully done; we know they can never be a normal, perfect, married couple - if the series had ended in that, it would have felt far too forced. But we do know just how much they really do love each other. Lily and Marshall (How I Met Your Mother) - again, this didn't have that buildup that I typically find necessary. But again, their relationship is *so* real. Awkward moments, angry moments, romantic moments that aren't quite typically romantic ("hey, want to do it in the kitchen?"). If they ever split up for good, I think I would lose a little bit of faith in humanity. Kevin and Winnie (The Wonder Years) - Oh, come on. We all know that the final episode was a fluke due to bad writing (the show had already jumped the shark) and in the real world, they were going to end up together. The writers thought they made the show "more realistic" by not having middle school lovebirds wind up together, but come on. If you'd had a middle school love that serious and beautiful and perfect, it would have. There are some other couples out there that I enjoy rooting for, but that I hesitate to put in the category of "perfect couples" because their characters are just a little too flat. Examples include Chuck/Sarah (Chuck), Blair/Chuck (Gossip Girl) and Rufus/Lily (Gossip Girl), House/Cuddy (House - again, I want to root for them, but it just feels a little too forced), Jack/Kate (Lost), Matt/Daphne (Heroes), Mal/Inara (Firefly), and Bette/Tina (The L Word).

Here are some I've liked, both past and present. -Angel & Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)--soulmates, simple as that!-Harm & Mac (JAG)-House & Cuddy (House, M.D.)-Michaela & Sully (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman)-JD & Elliot (Scrubs)-Cox & Jordan (Scrubs)-Niles & Daphne (Fraiser)-Sabrina & Harvey (Sabrina the Teenage Witch)-Cory & Topanga (Boy Meets World)
| Feb 17, 2009 8:40PM EST
i know there's some repeats, but my favorite tv couples (in order) would have to be:-Peyton and Lucas- One Tree Hill-JD and Elliot- Scrubs-Nate and Vanessa- Gossip Girl-Chuck and Blair- Gossip Girl-Max and Liz- Roswell-Rory and Dean- Gilmore Girls-Dawson and Joey- Dawson's Creek-Brooke and Owen- One Tree Hill-Monica and Chandler- Friends-Jackie and Kelso- That's 70's Show ...can't think of anymore right now. =]but don't you agree?
| Feb 16, 2009 5:16AM EST
no absolute order here but Turk and Carla, Even Jordan and Dr. Cox are perfect for each other because they are so much alike that getting a divorce from each other was like a wedding. And now they live happily. Jim and Pam is something i couldn't wait for. I'm glad it finally happened. Lilly and Marshall are one of the best couples I've ever seen. I liked monica and chandler better than rachel and ross. but both were excellent. But heres an unexpected turn...HOUSE and CUDDY. or WILSON and HOUSE LOL. more the first part. OH and JD and TURK. lol. the last few are kind of jokes House and Cuddy make sense though. Sookie and Bill are your perfect Tragedy couple. but i'm not huge on the couple thing cuz I don't know about these other shows.

I've used this site for a few years now, but never bothered to sign up, because I never had anything to say.UNTIL TODAY. I actually sat and read through all the comments looking for two names- and I couldn't believe they were only mentioned ONCE!!!Thank you so much, 'nicknackkx3'- the only person to mention the most amazing couple I have ever seen on TV. Michael and Sara (of Prison Break) show more believable chemistry and love than any other two actors I've ever come across. From their cute, flirty banter to the melt-worthy declarations of love to the deeply emotional, heartwrenching separations, every moment they are together is the most beautiful moment you will ever witness on television. I know the show it on its last run- in a few episodes, it will all be over. But has everyone forgotten them already? So easily? The thought makes me sad. As ridiculous as it sounds, those two changed my life. I'm not ashamed to say that, as far as TV is concerned, Michael and Sara will always own my heart. However, I'm not saying that other TV couples arent worth watching. Booth and Bones- in my opinion they're a couple in every sense except for actually saying it out loud- are always enjoyable to watch. As Sweets said, they complement each other. (one of the sweetest B&B moments ever)Mick and Beth from Moonlight are another of my favourites. It was a shame that they cancelled such a good show.These- and several other- couples are all great to watch. But for me, MiSa will always be number one.
| Feb 15, 2009 9:33PM EST
The OC: I was more of a Seth and Anna fan. They were waaaaay better together. And I hate Meredith and Derek.Oh, and I liked Michael and Holly on the Office. They need to bring Holly back!
| Feb 15, 2009 3:16PM EST

My favs: 1) Michael and Sara (Prison Break) - Hot, innocent prisoner using the unrealistically pretty prison doctor for his escape plan but truly falling in love in the process?! AMAZING. they were certainly forbidden lovers. and when he thought she died...yeah let's just say i was crying. a lot. michael: you kept it.sara: kept what?michael: the flower.sara: well i'm a packrat, i never throw anything outmichael: yeah all this clutter is overwhelmingsara: you should see my apartment.michael: woww not even our first date yet and youre already invinting me in. i thought you were a nice girl.sara: oh michael, we all know nice girls finish last. 2) Vaughn and Sydney (Alias) -epic epic epic . i love them . i love this show. enough said oh and i forget the exact words but the scene where they're talking over the intercom about their sex life or something and her dad's still listening and is like .. uhh ahem. HAHA priceless. 3) Chandler and Monica (Friends) - i absolutely love chandler and find them better together than the constantly annoying ross and rachel. they are hilarious and are so different that it works. 4) Luke and Loreli (: - Gilmore Girls - didn't religiously watch this but i loved them. 5) PENNY AND DESMOND<3 - (Lost) - yes. yes yes yes. at least 3 of their scenes together i've cried for. 6) Seth and Summer - (The O.C.) - adorable 7) Jack and Kate - (Lost) - i just realized they should so be ranked higher... fate put them on the island together... some deranged prankster put Sawyer there too =( 8) Matt and Julie - (FNL) - loveee the part when coach tells him to get in the back seat with the girl he likes.. who's his daughter! lmfao 9) Tim and Lyla - (FNL) - soooo much more interesting than street and lyla. loved them since episode (3)?? was it .. when they first kissed. <3 10) Charlie and Claire - (Lost) - Charlie and her loved each other like they never have anyone before, and that's what i like about them. I'm upset that she didn't even seem impacted by Charlie's death, nor did she really ever mention him much, but I know i was affected by his death! and how he treated them before he left.. because he knew he was going to die... heartbreaking. i know he would've been so good to aaron. =( they were cute and had a lot of issues but it was clear that they belonged together. PS: ...in response to the person that said sark and sydney.. i KNEW that wasn't just me picking up on that! of course i adore her and vaughn but whenever sark is around a girl he just heats everything up. loves him :D ...i would say lucas and peyton but after rewatching the show i think lucas works best with peyton but peyton works best with jake =/ ..oh and i do NOT like haley and nathan anymore. other good couples: ryan and rebecca from brothers and sisters, chuck and blair from gossip girl, rory and jess from gilmore girls, jim and pam from the office, betty and gio from ugly betty, cory and tapanga from boy meets world, sark and lauren from alias...wow theres a lot more i just can't think of them. anyways, those ten are my favorites..the order might be mixed up a little but you know how it goes
| Feb 14, 2009 1:03PM EST

(I you dont recognize one or more of the couples (I say that with 2 in mind) Just google search it:P:P) 1. Lucas and Peyton (One Tree Hill) 2. Angela and Hogdins (Bones) 3. Brennan and Booth [ok technically not a couple, (yet) but by . .no you know what Im not going to spoil it for anyone who doesnt know!] (Bones) 4. Loreli and Luke (Gilmore Girls) 5. Craig and John-Paul (Hollyoaks) 6. Scotty and Kevin (Brothers and Sisters) 7. Ryan and Taylor (O.C) 8. Robin and Marian (BBC's Robin Hood) 9. Ross and Rachel (Friends) 10. Rory and Jess (Gilmore Girls)
| Feb 13, 2009 11:53PM EST

Cory and Topanga [Boy Meets World] 6. Steve Urkel and Laura [Family Matters] (<3 last season) 7. Haley and Nathan [One Tree Hill] 8. Erica Hahn and Callie Torres [Grey's Anatomy] - i wish they hadn't fired hahn. it could have been a great story 9. Josh and Donna [West Wing] 10. Piper and Leo [Charmed] 11. How in the world did everyone forget Ned and Chuck?? (Pushing Daisies)Although their love didn't last long before the show got cancelled, I think they were by far the best couple ever. I mean come on!! Childhood sweethearts that are madly in love, but can't ever touch or Chuck instantly dies? How can you beat that? No TV romance will ever beat the shots of Ned and Chuck each holding their own hand, pretending they were holding each others.

I grew up in England, so get ready for some obscure, yet wonderful British couples to make the list... (Oh, and they're in no particular order.) 1. Marshall & Lily (How I Met Your Mother): Let's face it guys. These two are the ultimate TV couple. Together for 9 years?! 2. Steve & Susan (Coupling): Anyone who's seen this show knows that this couple remains one of the funniest ever to show their faces on TV. 3. Spike & Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): Angel's old news... It was with Spike that Buffy took the huge journey that made her able to defeat the First Evil at the end of the series and allowed Spike to change from a brutal killer to a savior of the world... Amazing stuff. 4. The Doctor & Rose (Doctor Who): Let's face it guys... who wasn't sad after Doomsday? And he didn't smile like crazy when they met again in Season 4? 5. Connor & Abby (Primeval): OK, so they're not a couple quite yet, but its coming and these two deserve a happy ending. (New season! Two days!) 6. Simon & Kaylee (Firefly): Their conversation in the movie when they think they're about to die scores them this spot. Kaylee's "Screw this...I'm gonna live!" line remains one of my faves! 7. Gavin & Stacey (Gavin & Stacey): C'mon, the BritCom's named after them! The show's so funny, it's set to be a classic and it centers around the unconditional love these two have for each other. That's gotta tell you something. 8. Jack & Ianto (Torchwood): It was unexpected at first... but it just makes sense now. 9. Willow & Tara (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): Oh, c'mon. Who didn't root for this couple? They were amazing. Damn you, Warren. 10. George Michael & Maeby (Arrested Development): I don't know about you guys... but incest has never ever been this funny or this adorable.
| Feb 12, 2009 10:33AM EST
1. Lily and Rufus/Blair and Chuck: Gossip Girl2. House and Cuddy: House M.D.3. Carrie and Mr. Big: Sex and the City
| Feb 12, 2009 5:49AM EST
little grey and mark sloan..... gosh that needed a spoiler alert! oh boy....
| Feb 11, 2009 6:19PM EST
I agree with most of the couples mentioned in the comments, but would like to add Denny and Izzy from Grey's Anatomy. They had to go and kill him off and then bring him back as a ghost, but not really a ghost, there but not actually there mumbo-jumbo. Still none of the couples on that show (yes, even Meredith and Derek) can hold a candle to "Dizzy"! (thats my best attempt at a name mashup)Although if the "little Grey"/Mark Sloan relationship keeps going they may get my vote for best couple on that show!

Jim and Pam. I mean is there really anything more to say? No show has ever portrayed a romance like that. None. Ever. It's really a penetrating experience. That's what she said.

First off, allow me to point out that the idea of "Perfect TV Couples" is highly subjective and does not necessarily have to include the typical "I love you" exchange. Sometimes the best couples are those who never actually (but you really really want them to) make it to that together-forever stage. Sometimes a certain pairing provides nothing more than the thrill of possibility, which usually makes for much more viewing pleasure. So here's my take on the most engaging and dare I say frustrating TV couples both on and off the air. 1. Buffy and Spike: Yes, I'm a hardcore Spuffy fan but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate what Angel and Buffy once had. In many ways their relationship was so inextricably gut wrenching that you do want him to become human, gypsy curse be damned. However, Romeo and Juliet can only take you so far, and in all honesty their relationship was too high school from the start. Now Buffy and Spike may not have had the perfect fairy tale romance, but at least they formed a legitimate bond based on mutual trust that eventually led to the kind of intimacy we all secretly long for. Plus, Spike looks better with his shirt off. 2. Booth and Bones: It's been what, 4 seasons and the two partners have yet to proclaim their everlasting love. So what? We love them together because they work well as a team both on and off a case. Sexual chemistry is worth a lot these days, especially if 'Bones' can avoid the eventual Mulder-Scully debacle. 3. Veronica and Logan: God have these two suffered. Between her habitual trust issues and his penchant for havoc, it's a miracle V/L made it through three seasons. And yet, we all want to root for the couple who only has themselves to blame for holding them back. Hopefully their relationship will be further explored with the new VMars movie! *Other honorable mentions: BSG's Admiral/President, The OC's Seth/Summer, SATC's Harry/Charlotte [I've neglected to mention Carrie and Big only because I think he's a huge prick at times]

Couples I think should be on this list: Buffy & Angel - The first 3 seasons were hot! They were always meant to be, you know it, I know it, we all know it. Plus Buffy never actually loved Spike. Ned & Chuck (Pushing Daisies) - Cutest story line never. Wish we could know how it worked out in the end. The Doctor & Rose (Doctor Who) one relationship that was meant to be but could never happen. until they messed it up at the end of season 4. Brian & Justin (Queer as Folk) Toss up between them and Micheal/Ben. But there was something about BJ that you just can't get enough of.
