LIFE UNEXPECTED "Pilot" Early Review

Imagine you're hanging out with your buddies and your girlfriend when there is a knock on the door and on the other side is standing the 15 year old daughter you never knew existed. And so begins LIFE UNEXPECTED, a new drama premiering on the CW Monday January 18th at 9 PM.

Here's the story: high school sweethearts Nate 'Baze' Bazile and Cate Cassidy conceived a child when they were 16. Nate thought she had an abortion and Cate gave the child (Lux) up for adoption. What Cate didn't count on is that her child had a hole in her heart which made her undesirable for parents looking to adopt. So, Lux has spent the past 15 years bouncing between various foster families.

The is the first show I've seen in a very long time that I instantly fell in love with. Brittany Robertson steals the show as Lux and does the seemingly impossible job of making a15 year old charming and likable. Lux's mom Cate (played by Shiri Appleby) and her dad Nate (played by Kristoffer Polaha) also do an outstanding job in completing this all-American family. Life Unexpected will explore the relationships between parent and child, past and present, and the possibility of new beginnings.

I know some of you may have reservations, as it seem like the topic of teen pregnancy is becoming rather trite lately. However, I found this to be an original show, that is mature, and done extremely well. I hope Life Unexpected succeeds and I'm anxious to see where they are going to take it. It's a bit more grown up than other shows on the CW (don't take that the wrong way, I love me some Gossip Girl), and I think it will be a great asset to the channel. Speaking of Gossip Girl, this show is appearing in GG's time slot while the show is taking a small break, so check it out and let me know what you think!

First, let me say that Life UneXpected, contrary to the network's other shows has that rare quality of creating lively characters. While vampires, wealthy elite and unreasonably successful people at the age of 23 provide lots of drama, entertainment and excitement, it is great to finally be able to relate to what's being portrayed on screen. Sure, teenage pregnancies and mariage proposal are not something ordinary people like myself deal with on a daily basis, we all have been faced with a crossroad. Some people like their comfort and won't go forward while others choose to grow up and take their responsabilities. In Life UneXpected, we will see the journey of a young woman ( Cate Cassidy ) who takes the decision to overcome her fear of commitment and to take the leap, get married and have kids. Not necessarily in that order...
