The Gates: "Pilot" Review Season 1, Episode 1

If you took pretty much every aspect of the Twilight franchise and carelessly tossed it into an episode of Desperate Housewives, the ugly hybrid that would manifest itself would probably look something like the pilot of The Gates. ABC's new vampire drama attempts to reel you in, but a whirlwind of predictable characters and plot points keeps it from instilling much of anything outside of apathy.

The show primarily follows Nick Monahan (Frank Grillo) and his family as they move from their life in Chicago to a quiet suburban neighborhood called The Gates, which houses both unknowing humans and domesticated vampires struggling to lead normal, "human" lives. Nick has been hired as the community's new chief of police, while his son Charlie (Travis Caldwell) adjusts to being the well-spoken but misunderstood bad-ass of the local high school.

Charlie is def NOT the "bad ass" stereotype! If this is what the 'misunderstood hot outcast' character has come to then I'm giving up tv lol b/c Charlie looks nerdy as hell! Jared Leto (my so-called life), James Franco (Freaks and Geeks), James Marsters (Buffy) - now THOSE were Hot bad boys! I miss the pre-twilight days when tv was still good. hahahaha
