It's hard to think of a quality show affected by as many outside factors as The Spectacular Spider-Man was this year. Thanks to the Kids' WB programming block going away at The CW, the series found itself without a network after Season 1. And while Disney XD eventually picked it up, it would take them a very long time to debut new episodes with the Season 2 premiere airing a full year after Season 1 concluded. Meanwhile, all of Season 2 had aired in the interim in Canada, meaning the episodes were widely available online, which may have adversely affected the ratings, certainly when it comes to older viewers. Then, you had Disney XD do some frustrating scheduling (after taking so long to premiere the season in the first place), by placing more than a two-month break in-between episodes seven and eight.
And then in the middle of that, came news not only of the huge Marvel/Disney deal, but also that Sony, who produced Spectacular Spider-Man, had relinquished all television rights to Spider-Man as a character meaning if the show did continue, it would be without Sony's involvement. Whew! Can someone give this show a break? All of this leaves the series' future still in a state of limbo, as the creators and fans alike wonder if Marvel and Disney will decide to continue the show, which hasn't been in production for the better part of a year.
