If there's a theme this season on True Blood, it's all about "identity," series creator Alan Ball tells USA Today. When Sam tries to explore his roots, he stumbles on a "Pandora's box" and discovers why his family gave him up and that they're somewhat sketchy. But Ball isn't just referring to Sam's search for his biological family since there are obviously more types of characters thrown into the third season besides shape shifters, including new vampires and werewolves.
"Each character is coming to terms with who or what they are," Ball explains. "We're finding out what makes them tick and what they're willing to do and not willing to do, and what they're willing to fight for and not willing to fight for."
