PSYCH Season 4, Episode 2: "He Dead" - Review

Psych has a knack for putting its main characters, Shawn Spencer and Burton "Gus" Guster, in creative, potentially-hysterical situations. In last week's premiere, the guys were involved in case which pitted them against a high-class art thief. This time around, the detectives found themselves trying to solve the murder of a billionaire hedge fund manager named William Clayton. In both cases, infiltrating the world of the rich and famous should've been a comedy slam dunk, but neither episode took full advantage of the opportunity.

Last week, Cary Elwes' cameo as an art thief was the highlight of the episode, and PSYCH continues to do well by its guest stars. Christine Baranski (Cybill) played the grieving wife of the dead billionaire who handled the bad news quite stoically. "I'm shocked. It just doesn't show on my face because of years of Botox." Nevertheless, she privately hired Shawn and Gus to solve the crime, giving them whatever resources they wanted. Shawn's needs were simple. In addition to a case of Red Vines and a Sham-Wow, he'd need to "become Warren Clayton - go where he'd go, do what he'd do, see what he'd see."
