Coming off the high that was just having Futurama back with "Rebirth," we were treated to a second episode during the one hour season seven premiere on Comedy Central. The second episode "In-a-Gadda-Da-Leela," despite prominently featuring one of our favorite cartoon characters of all time, Zapp Brannigan, was simply not as strong as the first.
The episode definitely had a stronger plot than the first, with a standard Futurama doomsday scenario where the world, led by the underground President Nixon, called upon Professor Farnsworth to save day. This time around? Rather than a giant ball of garbage coming at Earth, it was a Star Wars-esque Death Sphere.
Unfortunately, the jokes just weren't as strong and some of the characters' actions just felt wrong and out-of-character to us. Like Leela jumping in way too quickly to sleep with Zapp, a man she's been rejecting for six seasons since their one night stand.
