Legend of the Seeker, while being a series based on epic fantasy, has generally kept each week's episode as self-contained as possible. There is always the ongoing quest that Richard Cypher and his friends are on, but each episode usually introduces a conflict that can be resolved in the same hour. "Light" ventures off this path, at least slightly, when Richard sets off on a quest of his own, leaving Kahlan, Zedd and Cara behind, as well as potentially relinquishing his role as the Seeker.
I like that they are attempting a longer story arc for Richard, but a lot of the rest of the episode feels like filler, which is surprising since the filler storyline concerns Denna. In the previous episode, she took the compass that Richard and company need to find the Stone of Tears, and in "Light" she kidnaps Zedd as well, apparently with a half-baked scheme to break him and turn him into her slave. I say half-baked because compared to the complicated and devious plot she hatched in the episode prior to this one, the plan here feels thrown together.
What is the most unsatisfying aspect of the episode is that Denna is abruptly dispatched at the end, presumably dead. It is a waste of one of the few villains that the show has developed, other than Darken Rahl, if that is really the last we have seen of Denna.
