Throughout his time on So You Think You Can Dance, Ade Obayomi earned many accolades and a few nicknames along the way. He was known as the Gentle Giant, this season's strongest partner, and we long called him the dark horse of the Season. Ade was praised for his powerful solos, beautiful technique, laid back personality, and most of all, his amazing work as a partner.
In what some will describe as the second biggest shocker of the season, Ade was sent home on the last elimination before the So You Think You Can Dance finale. There's plenty of speculation as to why Ade was sent home instead of Broadway Boy, Evan Kasprzak. Some say SYTYCD has simply become a popularity contest, others site risque cell phone photos that were purportedly of Ade being leaked the day before the performance shows; while I believe Ade simply didn't get the kind of screen time that the remaining two male contestants did. It seemed to me we saw less of him than any other contestant all season. Furthermore, despite the fact Ade was a beautiful dancer on his own, most of the praise he received was on his partnering work with Melissa.
True to the laid back style and up beat personality which we came to love during his time on the show, Ade was nothing but positive when it came to discussing his time on So You Think You Can Dance, the two male dancers who did make it to the finale, and his elimination. This afternoon Ade chatted amiably with the So You Think You Can Dance press about his emotional dance with Melissa, his thoughts on the top two boys, and how it seemed fitting that he and Melissa were eliminated together.
