Well, we're approaching ATHF's 100th episode, and I sure hope the producers have just been phoning it in these last couple of weeks because they were focused on producing a century-mark extravaganza. This episode prominently featured Carl, whom we all know is funny as a supporting character, but stories like this one show that he may not be the best option to lead an episode by himself.
It started with Larry Miller selling a hair product to Carl. Larry Miller is actually a fairly prolific actor/comedian. Even if you don't know his name, you'll probably recognize him if you saw his face (try a Google Image search if you like), and it was kind of funny to have him do a guest role here.
Larry's hair system comes with a ridiculously high-tech simulation program that shows Carl's life if he had hair. "Hair Carl" is an interesting fellow, with a decent body, a loving family, and a good job. For some reason or another, the simulation is interactive. Bald Carl quickly goes on to ruin Hair Carl's perfect life. It's somewhat entertaining to watch Bald Carl convert his ideal version to a sad shell of his former self, but for the most part it's just plain sad. While Carl gets in some decent Carl-esque lines, the jokes didn't have the usual brilliance; they were just mean-spirited. And there's little humor in Hair Carl's shotgun suicide, a comedy device that ATHF has used far too often in the past few episodes.
