How I Met Your Mother: ''The Window'' Review Season 5, Episode 10

How I Met Your Mother excels at taking on dating concepts and presenting them in a fun -- and often over-exaggerated -- way. "The Window" takes a look at that window of opportunity everyone has to ask out someone you're interested in while they're still single. It's a worthy enough concept for the show to take on, but the resulting episode ending up being a bit lackluster.

After almost half a season of focusing primarily on the other characters, How I Met finally got back to the story of narrator and hopeless romantic, Ted Mosby. The lack of a Ted storyline hasn't really hurt most episodes this season, and our jump back into his love life this week felt more like a way to kick-start Ted's search for his future wife again, instead of presenting an actual, potential "Mother."

Joanna Garcia (Privileged, Freaks and Geeks) was decent as Maggie, the woman every man around seems drawn to (aside from Marshall, of course). But other than that magnetic phenomenon, we're given no reason why Ted has been obsessed with this girl for 12 years and attempted to date her at least three times in the past. Ted and Maggie don't seem to have any chemistry, and we're not even given a flashback to the college days of Maggie, Ted, Marshall and Lily to get an idea of why Ted is so into her.
