The Disappearance of Alice Creed - Review

A brutally monotonous thriller, The Disappearance of Alice Creed tries to be one of those Who's conning whom? puzzle-game movies - but it's like Deathtrap with two twists instead of 12. A pair of crooks (Eddie Marsan and Martin Compston) kidnap a rich girl (Gemma Arterton) who, it turns out, knows one of them already. Marsan overacts more tiresomely than he did in Happy-Go-Lucky, and director J Blakeson offers so many shots of the shackled Alice with a ball gag in her mouth that he appears to like those shots a bit too much. D+
