If you've seen enough Top Chef episodes, you probably noticed that desserts haven't really been the forte of most Top Chef stand-outs. Apparently, the Bravo bigwigs pay attention too and have ordered another Top Chef spin-off that pits pastry chefs against each other Top Chef style.
Know what that means? No more ceviches; this time, the chef-testants will only do after-dinner foods. It's slated for a 2010 kickoff, when the sophomore season of Top Chef: Masters will also begin.
"Their Achilles heel is usually the desserts," said Bravo exec VP-general manager Frances Berwick. "As this has gone on, we've been thinking that it would be fun to do a Top Chef with experienced pastry chefs. We've had a few pastry chefs on Top Chef, but they haven't gone too far. It's just a different skill."
Top Chef: Just Desserts, which will follow the same weekly elimination format, started casting this week and Berwich said that the final selections will be made over the next few weeks. No host or judges have been picked for the upcoming show.
Top Chef: Just Desserts will face off with a barrage of cake-related shows that have sprouted in the recent months, including TLC's Cake Boss and Ultimate Cake-Off, Food Network's Ace of Cakes and WE TV's Amazing Wedding Cakes.
