Scrubs: Season 9 Review

Even though Scrubs' future has not officially been decided, what is certain is that the final episode of Season 9 aired last week, wrapping up a collection of episodes that began with promise, but were ultimately disappointing. We met a new group of medical students who took the lead while longtime characters such as Dr. Cox and Dr. Turk played supporting roles and J.D. left after a handful of episodes.

Even though Scrubs' delicate mix of comedy and pathos had been firmly established for years, this season just never felt right. Part of the problem was due to creator Bill Lawrence envisioning this incarnation as a spin-off, while ABC thought of it as just another season for the long-running sitcom. The fact that they got rid of the majority of the old cast, changed the location to a teaching hospital and changed the premise may also have had something to do with it. In the end, Scrubs Season 9 had some high-points, but it never matched the quality it consistently showed in the earlier seasons.
