We're in what was originally the home stretch of Season 3 of Chuck - episode 11 of what was supposed to be a 13-episode season, until NBC decided to order six additional episodes. It adds an interesting element to the storyline, as this was the point where the writers were building towards a conclusion that ended up being put off. I still hope those additional six episodes don't feel a bit awkward as a result of not being part of the original conception for the season, but in the meantime, I continue to really enjoy the episodes we're getting.
We've seen a lot of episodes, especially recently, dealing with Chuck having to get past another step in his spy training, but this week began with General Beckman giving Chuck some surprising news - he was done! Only his Final Exam awaited, and if he passed that, he was a spy. Of course it can't be that simple, can it?
[As an aside, I was visiting the set when they shot this episode and watched Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Brandon Routh and Bonita Friedericy shoot the scene where Chuck gets the news about his final exam. There was a section of this scene I saw them shoot that was left on the cutting room floor â an amusing reference to the fans who campaigned to bring Chuck back, as Chuck responds to Beckman using the word "cancel" with a response about really good TV series that were cancelled, but that fans rallied to save.
