'Grey's Anatomy' - 'Sympathy for the Parents' Recap Season 6, Episode 19

This episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' finally gives the viewers the backstory of Alex Karev by introducing Alex's brother Aaron. They also planted the seed that Izzie won't be coming back by lightly mentioning divorce papers in the first five minutes of the show. Since Katherine Heigl is out, I wonder what will happen to Izzie's eggs?

The episode straddled the line between over the top and well executed. There were definite heart-tugging moments matched with actual interaction between Alex and Meredith and Bailey being an excited mother. To counteract this, I'm not on board with the whole "Callie wants a baby" storyline anymore, and I'm not feeling the Mark/Teddy relationship.

I've never been a big fan of Alex, but the background story that they created was fitting for him. I'm with Bailey giving kudos for how he's survived a broken family, foster care, and juvenile detention. My big problem was how it was executed; it almost seemed too convenient that Alex's brother Aaron would gab to anyone who was willing to hear. It makes me wonder how many truckers have heard Alex's adventures shoplifting food for the benefit of his family. It's not in my nature to start a family conversation in front of strangers, so it was odd watching Aaron conveniently scream at Alex in the lobby of a hospital in the earshot of the main characters. It was nice to see Meredith and Bailey support him.
