If you were to sum up this past season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in one word, it would be, "uneven." However, for fans of the series, there were still plenty of great storylines that rank among the series best, like "Paddy's Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens" and the season finale, "The Gang Reignites the Rivalry." There weren't any truly horrible missteps this season, which is a plus, just a few less-successful entries that either repeated familiar stories or simply didn't go far enough like "The Gang Wrestles for the Troops" or "Mac and Dennis Break Up."
Because seasons of Always Sunny don't have overall storylines or mythology, I have to judge the show on an episode-by-episode basis. The Gang spent plenty of time hustling innocent bystanders, ("The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis" and "The D.E.N.N.I.S. System") as well as getting hustled themselves (pretty much the rest of the season), so that's about as close to a theme as we're ever going to get. With that in mind, the biggest complaint I had was that the season never seemed to find a rhythm. There were streaks of both amazingly imaginative shows as well as disappointing episodes which repeated jokes from earlier seasons. This lack of consistency meant that on a given night, you never knew what you were going to get.
