Toby Keith admits he's never watched "American Idol" ... so he found it nice to have fellow Oklahoman Carrie Underwood as an opening act a while ago, but not a milestone.
"The promoters just booked it like that," country-music star Keith tells Zap2it. As it happens, his "American Ride" is up against Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova" and eight other rivals for video of the year at tonight's (June 9) CMT Music Awards.
"I've always been busy doing my own thing," Keith says, "but one of the concert promoters decided it was a good spot for her. I just got there in time to do my show. It wasn't really one of my tour dates, but what we call a 'one-off' (one specific performance)."
Keith admits any knowledge he had of Underwood at the time wasn't due to her fourth-season win of FOX's "American Idol."
"To be totally honest, I've never seen an episode of it. I work so much that when I'm off the road, I'm completely 'off' -- but I know the show has opened a lot of doors for a lot of people. I'm probably the only person in America who has never seen that show."
