How I Met Your Mother: Britney Spears and Red Cowboy Boots

I definitely wasn't impressed with the newest episode of How I Met Your Mother. I feel like this was an attempt to bring in more ratings by bringing Britney Spears back, but they forgot to actually write a decent episode!

All of the storylines were lacking in something that is essential for a sitcom- humor! Even Ted's red cowboy boots didn't get more than a chuckle out of me.

Britney's character, Abby, was fine for one episode as a background character. Giving her the spotlight in this episode was a big mistake, because she doesn't have enough depth or enough comedic abilities to carry the show! It even brought down Barney, who we can always count on for a laugh!

Lily's paintings appealing to animals was a boring concept, and a really stupid way to deal with their financial situation. I get that they need to show their money problems now that Marshall is unemployed, but there's a lot more humor to the situation than they dealt us!

The GCWK (Gay Couple Without Kids) even had serious funny potential, but perhaps because it was surrounded by all the other boring storylines, it just wasn't!

And largely ignored this episode was Robin, who is always there for a good Canada joke when all else fails! (OK, so her e-mail address was a bit of a Canada joke, but it could have been WAY funnier than that!)

Anyway, the episode was a huge disappointment and really only evoked yawns, rather than the usual laughs. I say they should stick to what they know - the characters we know and love - and stop attempting to help Britney salvage her career!

Definitely an all-time low for HIMYM! Am I alone in thinking that??

While definitely not my favourite HIMYM, I don't think it was the worst. I didn't find the plot lines too bad, but I am definitely getting sick of Britney. I didn't really like her in the first episode, and I wish they would just leave her out of the show altogether. I totally agree that she brought down Barney though, and I didn't even think that was possible.

I absolutely agree! While Sarah Chalke has been a more than welcome addition to the cast, Britney has been far less so. She was fine in 'Ten Sessions' as a side character - but she's not strong enough to hold up her own story.
Her contribution to ratings is welcome, but I propose that increasing ratings to a show at the expense of its quality is a no-brainer. We haven't seen much humour since the's to hoping the end of the season is a bit better!

I was hoping for something to brighten up my day with this episode because I had jsut had an exam, however, it was not a good distracting and found myself bored. The end of the season must be better!! It has to be!!

i think brittney spears sounded kinda fake and annoyingi don't know if that what she was going for or if that is just her.i think a different actress would of been better but we cant always get what we want or we would know who the mother is already.
season 4 will be amazing.

I agree with the initial review,The plot lines were lacking substance, the only one that I felt flowed well was Marshall and Lily. Britney is an unnecessary cast member in this show, she plays the part well, there just no reason for it to be a celebrity like her. I'm excited for the season finale, but I really hope they re-watch their first and second seasons to get back into writing the way they did when we all fell in love with this show.
