Have they been around this in the series.

The thing that is bugging, and have been bugging me sense SG-1, is the fact that everybody in every galaxy and on every planet they get to is speaking English with little variation in the dialect. I have watched all the movies and every episode of both SG-1 and SGA and i can't remember any time where they explain this, other then that everyone ascends from earth. That is an okay explanation but still then they would be speaking old English and not know all the same words that we use, and are we to believe that everybody was taken from England.

It is only in the first movie that this is a problem, with them being from Egypt.

What I would like to know is if anyone can remember if they explained this at anytime?

I had the same thought too! I guess it makes following the show a lot easier, but it really doesn't make sense. And regardless if everyone speaks English in the world today, it doesn't really explain how people could speak on different worlds. On Earth alone, hundreds of languages evolved, you would figure the same in different galaxies....guess that's scifi.

Can't explain the english language/dialect in the pegasus galaxy, but languages and dialects was daniels speciallity in SG-1, thus even the non english speaking universe was understood. Also taken from england? Around 80% of the Earthly population speak english and also there are around nearly 200 x the english speaking folk in china alone

It was changed from the film cause it was the down point of the film it lost rating because viewers commented that it was to confusing to keep track of languages. So the show writers changed some things.
